Hi all,
I cant find a thread to help with this so thought I better ask. I have a neutered boar who will be getting introduced to 6 of my sows soon and I'm wondering how to go about it. Do I put all 7 in together on neutral territory or a couple at a time? What is normal behaviour to expect when I introduce them and what should I look out for?
Thanks,
Jools x

In a nutshell - he'll probably hump them, and they will probably tell him off!

I would probably put the cat amongst the pigeons and stick the whole lot out on lovely good grass in a big run, carefully supervised, and see what happens.

Good luck!

Introduce him with LOTS of space and access to fresh air (smell!), and be prepared for complete testosterone overload for 1-2 days. That includes humping anything that moves in front of his nose, can be cornered or mounted from which direction ever. Though, generally, a girl doesn't really appreciate having the family jewels thrust in her face! And will tell him that...

DON'T separate them unless one of the girls shows signs of sustained aggression (loud and prolonged teeth chattering). Head butting, nipping, screeching and complaining at the top of the lungs are par for the course. Brace yourself for NOISE.

It may be quite rough, depending on how pent-up Elvis is, but you have to let them work it out. EVENTUALLY, he'll run out of steam and become a normal piggy again...

If you happen to have a girl in season, he'll mainly go after her. She'll just sit near him, telling I'm off with that special noise that means I'm not there - yet! (but never moving awayfrom him!) and keeping her bum off until she's ready to mate for about two hours. For that, she has to sit still and flatten her back, or he won't be successful - it's all the power to the girls!

Have fun - you may get a one-day repeat when the first girl comes into season; after that things should quieten down... your ears and your nose will be grateful!

Wow sounds like its going to be a fun time :))

Thank you very much for the advice. Not going to introduce for another couple of weeks yet as he has been quarantined for 4 weeks so far so needs another 2 just incase and also have just ordered some Manuka & Neem from Gorgeous Guineas as he is a bit flaky in his coat at mo so going to sort that out first too :)

It all depends on how sex-starved your boy feels!

Both neutered boys I have had in my life were rather dominant ones, so I've been more through the extremes. I thought you'd prefer to brace yourself for what might happen rather than panic over the fireworks and separate them too soon.

Glad to say that Llewelyn has nicely calmed down now, though he still isn't prepared to have things picked off his mouth by a girl!

Mine 3 neutered boars here have been the opposite- perfect gentlemen from day 1! So polite, and hen-pecked by the ladies!

Wish it was - I just saw him snatching grass off the ladies' mouth! But then the poor lad grew up sharing a run with bigger piggies, rabbits and chickens... Not a place to learn courtly manners!
