Well, their first 24 hours have gone ok, they are a bit subdued, but have eaten and are drinking. I am a bit concerned they arent eating much hay, even though its there. The hay is in the Kitchen roll tubes, and they know its there. They seem more interested in playing with the tubes, pushing them around, and actually nibbling on the tube itself, but the hay I'm not sure about.

Their wounds are amazing, if it wasnt for the tiny bit of suture poking out where it is tied, you wouldnt know they had had an operation.

I am just wondering, they gave subcut metacam pre op, which should have lasted about 24hours, could they be in pain, and need a bit more? I have some metacam drops here which I had to use on another piggy that was in pain, and wondered if they might need some more. What do you think?

I think you should have a little chat with the vet prior to administering any meds at all. Did they give you any info on aftercare?

I don't know much about that - I am sure there will be an expert along who can help.

How have they been since yesterday? Fingers crossed their appetite has picked up a bit.

Hi all, sorry I havent been on much today, been quite busy. The boys are doing really well. Woke up this morning to find one of them had completely finished the hay in his roll the other had obviously eaten from his. Their wounds are still very clean, and their is no signs of inflammation or hotness around the wounds. They havent been worrying at them either, which is good. They are rumbling again near the girlies which is a really good sign, was rumbling all night last night to the girls. I think things are going really well.

As far as after care, they have given a sheet, on what to look out for and wound care. I have been following that. I have been keeping the cage as clean as I can, the good thing is that the fleece just lets the urine soak through to the paper, and it keeps the boys nice and dry. I am just cleaning the Soaked paper when I notice it wet.

I am glad that all is going well so far and your boys are doing well!

Just a quick note, the boys are doing really well, eating me out of house and home again. Their wounds look really clean, and they arent worrying at them either, which is good. They are also eating the hay in the kitchen roll, I think I will keep this going, instead of putting it out like I used to, i can keep an eye on how much they eat, and it doesnt get dirty.

A really nice surprise happened this evening, just before the vets closed, I got a phone call from the vet that did the operation to check on the boys. I was so pleased, it was so nice to think they had thought to call. The told me that if there were any complications before the 10 day check up, I could call and go in straight away. I already knew that from the aftercare consultation, but it was still nice to hear that.
