introducing boars

If you look at the top of the behaviour and bonding section, you will find many useful guides on how to introduce one boar to another and also what to look out for during bonding.

What are some warning signs I need to look out for?

Hi and welcome

Please take the time to carefully read our illustrated bonding guide, which contains pictures and videos. It looks at all stages of the bonding process with the attendant good and bad dynamics and also has a chapter for specific dynamics and behaviours in boar bondings. The guide does not only cover the introduction but also the post-bonding dominance phase, which many people stumble over.
Be aware that you cannot bond boars in short meetings; rather leave them overnight in the neutral bonding pen than transferring them to the cage too early. Make sure that you take a day off for the bonding and observation.
Please keep in mind that there is no magic trick that makes a bonding a success; in the end, it always comes down to whether two piggies like each other and have compatible personalities - and you cannot change that.

Here is our boar guide, which also has a chapter on companionship: A Comprehensive Guide to Guinea Pig Boars
