Here are our new piggies!
We took Spike to the rescue in Southampton on Monday to choose a friend and he chose Hector.
We decided to adopt another two guinea pigs to be their neighbours as Anna who runs the rescue said we have more than enough room.
A piglet called Pepper came running out squeaking at Mike so we decided to take Salt and Pepper home as well, now renamed Gerry and George.
The only problem was I couldn't get a lovely pig called Bob out of my mind so Anna said we could have a go at introducing him to Spike and Hector. A trio doesn't often work but both Bob and Spike are so laid back there's a good chance.
Anna looked after them all until today to make sure they bonded and thankfully it was a success so she brought them up this afternoon and settled them in to their new home.
It was lovely, as she came in and saw the set up she said " You've landed on your feet here boys!"
Her and all the girls that help her out are especially happy that Bob has his own home finally. He's nearly 2 and always lived at the rescue and keeps being over looked because he has diabeties. I couldn't let him spend his whole life in a rescue.
George managed to break his front teeth off a few days ago, they're growing back nicely but it's quite an effort to eat so he's having dinner on my lap so Gerry doesn't scoff it all. Parsley and kale seem to be going down very well, he should be able to eat again properly in a week or so but for now everything is being cut up into very small pieces.

Hope you like the photos, they're not brilliant, I wanted to give them chance to settle in before I bothered them with more photos!

Bob has been a very calming influence when Hector has a go at mounting Spike he soon stops when Bob comes close. Bless him, Hector really wants to be top pig but I think Bob is boss and doesn't even have to show it!

Hi Kate

I'm glad they have settled in.

They all looked so happy and settled when I left.

Hope Hector behaves himself lol but it sounds like Bob is keeping an eye on him

You know where I am if you need any help or advice.

Take care
Anna

Hi Anna
They're doing really well thanks, Spike started the squeaking for breakfast and they all came out running and squeaking, what a noise! It was great!
I hope you like Salt and Peppers new names, we finally agreed on George (Salt) and Gerry (Pepper)

Thanks again for all your help and advice.

Day 3 with the new boys

The boys are doing really well. There's been no scraps between George and Gerry today. George is eating really well now, he's happily munching on the dried food as well and his teeth are growing back nicely.
Gerry is a nuzzler! I cleaned them out last night and he nuzzled all up my arm, he wouldn't leave me alone and thought it was great fun to sit in the dust pan!
George is becoming much more confident he came down with the others for breakfast today.
Gerry has discovered you can eat your hay in the comfort of your very own cuddle cup if you headbutt it across the pen!

Then when you're feeling sleepy you can just curl up where you are.

Bob is a right little poser he loves having his photo taken. lol

Then Gerry got a bit jealous...
Look at me, look at me!

But Bob let it be known he should have all the attention.

Spike and Bob have developed a strong bond, they keep snuggling up together.
Bob is being a good peace keeper when cheeky Hector tries to mount Spike he gets a teeth chatter from Bob and soon gives up. It's been lovely to see Hector popcorning today but he won't stay still long enough for a photo!

What handsome chunky boys and how exciting to get four new guinea pigs. x)

Oh, WOW - you are catching up with a vengeance!

Your trio is simply stunning; you must be so happy to see Spike having two new friends. Bob is drop dead gorgeous - but from Hafina I know how much even small health issues can deter people from rehoming.

I love the "G-Force as well", they look like a bunch of characters! It is amazing how well and quickly they have settled in; they must have been much loved at the rescue!

I dread to think how many I would have if I'd started with girls! :(|)
The house felt so quiet without Spike while he was at the rescue making friends, it's certainly changed now!
Bob was a favourite of all the girls that help out at the rescue so I get the feeling he had extra cuddles!
George and Gerry are really good at being handled, they just sit there and let you stroke them and pick them up. (unlike Spike!)
Hector's still a bit skitish but trying really hard to be as brave as Spike and Bob, it was helped by the supply of dandylion leaves I was feeding them! It's hard work trying to keep 5 happy. Faster, faster! I've finished, and me, and me! :(|)

Hi Kate

I think the names are great, much much better than Salt and Pepper.

Bob was laid back right from a baby of 8 weeks when he first came here and he just didnt need any extra handling to get used to humans. He just loved his cuddles.

Hector I dont think had ever had much handling but he is a different character altogether, I'm sure he will settle down now he will be getting lots of one to one attention.

Salt and particularly Pepper were always very interested in what was going on in the Rescue, particularly with visitors so got attention from everyone who came here.

The pictures are lovely but I have to laugh at piggy in the cuddle cup by the hay rack trust him to work that out lol.

Thank you Kate for giving them such a lovely home, they all look so happy.

Anna

Ah thanks Anna, glad you like their names. Turns out Hector is as soppy as the rest of them! Mike (finally!) managed to pick him up last night and sat him on his lap, after a bit of fidgeting he flopped completely and let Mike stroke him for 1/2 hour, seems he loved all the attention. Mike got a headbutt on the hand if he stopped!
Turns out we've got a chirper Mike heard it yesterday afternoon, he thinks it was George but I've not heard it since.
I could watch them all day!
