Porky Pig

Hi!

my piggy has been eating "Pets At Home Nuggets" and I want to switch him over to "Burgess Excel Nuggets with Blackcurrant & Oregano." Should I just make the switch or should I do it gradually? If gradually, how gradually? The person at the shop said because Burgess is so good, a sudden switch to it wouldn't harm my piggy. True?

Also, I saw stuff at the shop such as:-

- Burns Dandelion for rabbits and small animals
- Burns Coltsfoot for rabbits and small animals
- Burns Plantain for rabbits and small animals

Any good? Feed freely like hay?

Ta for your comments / insight.

Switching foods straight away won't do any harm to your guinea pig :)

thanks for answering what I now realise is a silly question... :red

Ok! Here's hoping he likes the new nuggets !drool

That was not a silly question. My understanding is always to introduce new foods gradually by mixing the new food with the old one for a good few days so that they can get used to it.:)

I'm trying to get mine off Wagg due to the fact that i am wasting so much of the bits they dont eat and my boys have switched successfully to Nuggets but the girls just wont have it. The sound they made when i walked in was as if to say 'We want Wagg now and dont try mixing any of those nuggets in with it again! Had to give in and bought another 15kg bag again today.:)

No but my point was it cannot harm your guinea pig switching foods straight away :). And no, it wasn't a silly question :)p

he's eating his new nuggets (Burgess Excel Blackcurant/Oregano) just now - and looks like he's enjoying them! For 99pence per 750gram bag, I'm getting some more!

I'm going to try the plantain, dandelion and coltsfoot in a little while.

Why do we spoil our pets so much?! rolleyes

Whew, thanks... wouldn't want to waste anyone's time.

:)) That's what I mean - we're sooo soft on our pets! Would your girls give in to the nuggets, eventually, when they're very hungry?

I mixed the excel food with their original food and did it that way so as not to upset tummies. I have to say I did it over a week only though - some say to take longer than than. Once they were on burgess excel guinea I added the blackcurrant one and now mine have a mix of both. They do pick out all the blackcurrant one first and them eat the plain one but they do eat both.

As for why do we spoil them so much I have no idea but I am loving all the stuff I am getting for them, I DO hope it gets less and less though as currently they are costing me a bomb!
