Hello I lost a guinea pig 4 months ago and have got two rescue piggies as I felt she was lonely and needed some company. They seemed fine in the run but yesterday had a few dominance behaviours in the hutch. Things have calmed down, but the two new pigs seem to be ignoring my older sow and wondered if anyone had a similar experience when binding older piggies

Hello and welcome to the forum
(hopefully all your girlies will settle soon, I’m sure your older piggie will find favour with your new girls x

Well they have had three days together and I’m not sure if they are happy or not. My older guinea is much more subdued and not as friendly with us. They all sit in deprecate areas of the hutch and I am wondering whether to put her back in her own hutch or to continue and see if they bond. Anyone else had experience of this? Most people say they have had no problems with sows

My two sows were problematic when I tried to bond a new young husboar after their previous one died in December. One turned upon the other, attacking her and the new neutered boar acted like a thug with both of them. They were all fine as neighbours, it all looked very promising, I couldn’t have been more wrong. You never know how things will work out until they are all together. It was just horrible and menacing from the very moment they where together.

As long as they are all eating and no fighting then I would leave them be. Give them chance to sort out who’s boss if there’s no fighting or open aggression, just keep a keen eye on them to make sure no one is being bullied x

Sitting in separate areas of the hutch doesn’t mean they don’t get along. They won’t always sit together, eat together or cuddle up. Give them time ☺️
