Hi all. First post on the forum :) I had a pair of brothers and sadly one passed away a couple of weeks ago :( my remaining boy seems a little lonely and I was just wondering if I could pair another 1 or 2 boys with him to keep him company ?.

Any advice would be wonderful

Thank you x

How old is your boy? Pairing him with another boar is a good idea, try looking for rescues in your area that do boar dating so that he can pick his own ideal companion to ensure that they get on. If he is an older boy, looking for a younger partner is ideal, and vice versa.

Thank you ! He's just over 5 years old. I'll look into your ideas and see if I can get him a companion :)

Sounds good to me! I had a similar situation recently with my boar of the same age, we went out and got him a little friend and he was just fine. I'm sure there are some reputable rescues in your area that would do boar dating if you were particularly worried about bonding two piggies, as although I've been lucky enough to have no issues so far i know many people have, and they would be able to pair him with a similar partner to make sure they got on well! Plus, getting an older chappie, thought the initial bonding may be more difficult, will eliminate any tension when puberty hits if you did choose to get a younger piggy. Best of luck, be sure to keep us updated! c:

Guinea pigs can grieve the loss of a companion so it is very much possible that your piggy is lonely and grieving. Rescue route would be best, ideally boar bonding as the rescue will assist in making sure that you have the best piggy match possible (piggy partnership is all down to individual personalities and not gender/age/family related). A rescue will also provide ongoing support for the lifetime of the piggy so if you do have any later concerns/falling outs in the pairing they can give you advice and support.

Sounds like he is lonely and boar dating is the best way of getting a secure and stable bonding for him. Where are you based?

I'm in Wisbech on the Norfolk/ Cambs border. Never tried dating for guinea pigs before !

Plus....is it better to keep them in pairs or can more of them live happily together ?

Thank you for all the advice, very much appreciated x

It is definitely better for them to be in pairs, you really do begin to see their happiness shine through when they have a friend! Wishing you the best of luck, be sure to keep us updated :)
