Royal and Regal...
Finally introducing piggies 6 and 7 of our fostered boys. These boys have come from the original rescue of the Glasgow 40 (http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/...-new-homes-by-30th-nov-3years-glasgow.108537/). Although only 13 were surrendered to Hutches Rescue and a hamster. Unfortunately only 12 piggies have survived as one piggy succumbed to an intestinal twist. All these piggies were fed on rabbit food from birth and therefore suffer badly from impaction and general malnutrition including scurvy due to lack of vitamin C.
These two boys who are estimated to be between the ages of 4 and 6 and are still very skittish but they are now waiting at the bars for food instead of hiding until the coast is clear. They are now also eating with us being in the room which is a great improvement on when they came to us last weekend. They both have urine burnt feet which are now also improving with cream from the vet. We are still checking them for impaction although again this has improved dramatically over the last week. They are lovely little piggies but due to their diet we think their growth has been stunted as when they arrived with us Royal weighed just under 700gms and Regal 800gms and we are glad to report that their weights have increased to 765gms and 870gms - but a way to go yet. These boys were the healthiest of the ones Joanne had rescued and were fit enough to come to us for tlc. We are continuing to keep a close eye on these boys but we are seeing improvements every day with their special diet. One last thing - their nails were horrendously overgrown and will take some time to get them under control.
