piggy power

Morning all,

I hope someone can give me some advice.
We adopted a lonely rescue pig a couple of weeks ago. He was neutered on Monday, and seems to be making really good progress. I know he has to be kept separate from my 3 girls for a few weeks yet, but I wondered if it would help to put his cage next to theirs so that they can start getting used to each other.
Any advise would be gratefully received.

Janet

I have to agree with Cavy Crazy! I got my new sow 2 weeks ago and although their cages are not next to each other they are in the same room and my Spike is going crazy! Luckily there is only a week to go now but the poor little fella is getting desperate!

Taking what piggypower has said you could put their hutches side by side for the last week, which would help with the introductions but for the whole three weeks (four to five if your like me and what to be on the safe said) is just cruel really. You know what men and male guineas are like they can't control themselves. ;D

I think it's a wonderful idea to put their cages next to each other, in order for them to get to know one another :)

Hope it all goes well :)

Phew... after reading this I don't feel as bad for keeping mine in the same room! Unfortunatley I didn't have a choice of anywhere else to put her! He wasn't so bothered in the 1st week but since his sudden growth spurt the little guy and gone flip mo!

LOL But then they can learn from it (hopefully), that they can't always have what they want, but have company without the squabbles :)

Good luck with your bonding, i'm sure once the 3+ weeks is over (i think that's the timing) he'll have a lovely life with all his beautiful wives ;) :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

I know I've jumped onto your thread but once you put a girl with a boy how long before you can leave them in a cage and not worry assuming initial meetings go well? Next weekend is when my 2 will meet properly and on the Monday my parents go on holiday for 2 weeks so the pigs will be on their own during the day. Should I just give them free time together or do you think I will be ok to leave them. They will have a 5 x 3 cage and 2 of everything.

I would introduce slowly. Free time together, then a bit of cage time, then to slowly increase the amount of time together :)

Agree. You have a good size hutch and two of everything so you are well prepared. Good luck and let us know what happens. :)
