As you may know I've just acquired a pet shop piggy. I wouldn't think he's had any veg before so I was just wondering, whats the best sort of veg to introduce him to first? Whats least likely to upset his tummy? I won't be giving him lettuce as I know that can upset them, but would bell peppers, cucumber, carrot etc all be ok for him, just a small amount to start with?

Any advice greatly appreciated :)

I usually introduce one thing at a time i.e first day just carrot, if no reaction then day 2/3 they get carrot and a bit of cucumber, and so on. I start with the most common veg first - e.g most pigs that come into rescue eat carrot, as that's what most owners think guineas eat! Very seldom get a bad reaction, but worth monitoring.

A handful of grass is often welcome as well. Carrot, lettuce, cucumber are good starters. Cabbages I would introduce last and only slowly.

Be careful not to give too much of whatever you are feeding at first in order not to upset their tummies; piggies unused to veg can get easily diarrhea.

I've given him a small handful of carrot, and that was a success. I'll start to vary it as he gets used to it. Thanks for your advice :)
