Nearly a month ago now I brought my new boy Jesse home from an RSPCA centre nearby. He's been neutered and is ready to meet my two girls now that he's 6 weeks post op. I took him to the vets last week for a quick check up and the found that he has an irregular heartbeat and this was confirmed when he went back for another checkup tonight.

Does anyone have any experience of piggies with this problem? The vet has said there is nothing they would give Jesse at the moment but to keep an eye on him. I'm planning on just keeping him as stress free as possible but otherwise to carry on as usual. Does this sound like the best course if action?

Yes I have 2 pigs with this who aren't on heart medication but may do in the future if needed. I also have pigs who do need heart medication. We listened to our Barney the other day with the stethoscope and he was literally skipping a beat but he does not need medication at this stage.

Keep an eye out for any laboured breathing, rapid breathing, abdominal bloating, nodding with breathing, hooting followed by a cough, blue nose, lips, etc, and deep sleep as these are all signs of a full on heart condition that would need medication.

Thanks Helen. It's useful to know what to look out for. He's such a happy little chap and is enjoying the company of the girls so much, i'm hoping to have them all living together full time by the weekend.
