hello is 3 years ok to get a male guinea pig dressed (NEUTERED) EDIT BY ADMIN

personally i wouldn't dress a guinea pig in any clothing, it can stress them out & even injure them with their delicate legs/back & bone structure:no:
i've only ever rested little hats on mine or little bits of tinsel (short periods of time..usually i'm lucky at a minute) for photoshoots, if the guineas move they just fall off - they are not attached in any way.
We'd rather see some piggy pics 'in the buff' as they say

no his man things

urm.... do you mean neutered/castrated? remove his manhood/dangleberries?  x

Neutered?

3 years old is fine. I would only recommend it if either it's a medical problem or you're going to bond him with a girl as its a surgery and so involves risks.

Make sure to find a good vet who has done many guinea pig neuters already as it's not the same as having a dog or cat done.

I'm going to bound him with girls

ohhh:oops: sorry i have no idea with that as i've only ever had girls. other members on here have had a good success rate as long as your guinea is fit & healthy when going for the op.

to minimise any complications i would just recommend that you find a very experienced vet that has done numerous neutering's & ask loads of questions beforehand, be rigorous with a post op regime, weighing regularly etc, keep an eye on the wound afterwards to make sure it doesn't get infected or develop an abcess, also make sure you leave a six week period before introducing him to any females (any earlier & theres still a risk of any female becoming pregnant:td:)

How did neutered/castrated become dressed?! Autocorrect gone mad perhaps.

Really? Never heard that one before. Live and learn. Wonder how that came about.

Me neither.

I thought the OP was asking about letting a small child put clothes on her piggy!

@kiera it might be worth asking one of the mods to change the title of your post. Otherwise you might get lots of replies about how it is not kind to put clothes on a guinea pig!
There are lots of experienced owners on here who will be able to help with questions about neutering. Hope you find the answers you need.

@sport_billy @VickiA @LisaAli @BossHogg

any chance you could add 'neutered' to Kiera's title, some of us are not used to the term 'dressed' as neutering, it's confusing the post & Kiera's not getting the responses &help hoped for.... we're all thinking skirts&tutu's not medical terms -i'm wondering if the heath guru's are thinking along the same lines as myself & others. Thankyou. x

I Googled it but couldn't find any reference to it meaning neutering.

I would have thought undressed was more appropriate!

Perhaps the term comes for the tailors - you know - when a tailor says to the man do you dress to the left or dress to the right - bit more polite than which side do you tuck your willy on in your pants:yikes:

We have changed the title to neutered, the term dressed can be used but is usually referring to Female dogs... x

Just go commando and swing free! :))

I've seen the term 'dressed' used before when something is partially butchered

Now boss, you don't want to be "swinging free" when you do the great north run - you might trip over it and fall flat on your face!:yikes:
Have you seen the mankini photos? You'll clearly see it isn't possible for him to trip over it :))

Poor Boss! in his defense it was probably a very cold day when that photo was taken

Oi! Everything was strategically taped up to prevent a visit from the distasteful police dept!

I had to chuckle when I heard dressed too and was thinking clothes. I only have one piggy and he is a boy so neutering is not something I am having done just because it is not necessary. When he had his T Float surgery last week she asked if I wanted him neutered too and I asked what the risks were and why it is necessary. She said there is always a risk and if I was going to have more than one piggy then it would be necessary if the other piggy is a female.
Si I didn't ave it done as it was not necessary for eli.

I have been googling it too and at no point have I found it referred to as dressed. Surely by dressing something, you are adding rather than taking away! ha ha
