My 2 are going to my friends tonight to stay with her and her family for just over a week while we are away. I shouldn't worry as she has had piggies for years and so knows what she is doing. They will be fine but I am still really anxious. Got to pack the hamsters off on their holidays tomorrow too - 3 to boarding, 4 to my parents and 2 to Ross' Mum. It almost makes me not want to go on holiday rolleyes

Doesn't help that Gert started screeching again this morning like she did when she had mites but we have checked her over and she seems fine, her fur looks normal. She only did it twice and each time Johnny was seen running away from her and so I think he may have been trying to do naughty things and she was telling him to get off. It's more of a frustration squeal than an ouch one. Will send them with a pack of ivermectin in with their stuff in case it's needed. Am waffling now.

I'm sure they'll all be fine. Sounds like a military operation just getting ready to go. Have a lovely time. :)

Aaaagh, the stress of pet care when holidays come around! I am sure they will be just fine but its always a worry! We are due to go back to England for a holiday soon and I am dreading leaving our 'babies' behind.

Relax and enjoy your holiday, you are obviously leaving them in the best possible care!

I always get nervous and worried, but then I've had some bad experiences :(

When I was little and we went on a family holiday we used to send our girls (the first two pigs I ever had) to a kennel/cattery/small animal boarding. They were fine the first couple of times, and then one year we picked them up to find them literally skin and bone (this is two fat fully grown sows) with MANGE. we didn't go back there :...

Next one was a woman who advertised near us, with another couple of girls a few years later. We went round there and it was a very small terraced house that STANK of dog :)>>> literally. She had one little boar in a cage no bigger than a travel box in the kitchen, and the back yard (there was no lawn, and the yard was only a few metres big) just full of hutches cramped together and a shed along the back that was floor to ceiling cages. No light in there apart from the small door; she had a tortoise in the one next to where she put the girls, the cages themselves were TINT with no toys, no shelters, just hay on the floor (wooden), no newspaper. Plus she had a GIANT rabbit- he filled his entire hutch- that full-on attacked her, drawing blood when she even tried to feed it :... she had bites and scratches all over her arms! this worried me enough but my dad insisted we leave them there as we were leaving to go on the holiday like an hour later. So I reluctantly put them in the cage, we went out to the car and before she shut the door she randomly said "just to let you know, if they get ill I'm not responsible." OMGWTF i have NEVER in my life wanted to snatch up my pigs and run as much as I did at that moment. Luckily- very luckily- they were ok when we picked them up and as we'd left them a bag of spinach they had at least had fresh food. Never been so pleased to see my pigs in all my life!

So yeah... I'm super picky about where they go now, and when I go to uni in september they're either going to my parents or my boyfriend who has been well-trained on how to look after them :)

My pigs are going to a boarding place for guinea pigs and rabbits at the end of July for 9 days. This is the first time I have sent them somewhere and I am a nervous wreck :(

The owner has her own pigs (2 chunky boars) and she was very happy for us to go and have a look around.

They have a lot of good reports on their website from past guests so I really am hoping my babies will be ok.

I'm always nervous when I leave them... If I go home to gothenburg to visit my mum and sister I always bring them but then I worry about them in the carrier :))

If I go somewhere else for a weekend I've had friends feed them. I worry that they only get checked on once a day, but I don't feel I can ask for more. My friends aren't animal people and think I'm weird as it is...

Enjoy your holiday!

This is one bit I am not looking forward to - I thought it was just me; I feel as though I don't trust anyone else with my pigs. They've been to MIL and FIL's house for 3 days before and I felt nervous, but they were fine.

In 6 weeks, we are going away for 3 weeks to get married in Orlando and I think I'm in denial that I have to leave them behind. As family is coming with us for 2 weeks, everyone I trust with them can't look after them. I've been looking into boarding places online, but not much around North Wales - not sure if they'll go with a friend! Wish one of you lived near to me :))

My girls have been to my Mum's and to my Gran's when we've been away so I know they're being well looked after, although I did almost feel the need to leave a list of dos and don'ts (I resisted) 'They'll be fine!' my mum kept telling me. And of course she was right! I did pack almost as much stuff for them as I did for me though!

We have been lucky to find a brilliant cattery for Murdock when we go away though. It is always immaculatley clean and you can see that the girl who runs it adores cats, but I always feel sad leaving him. I wonder if he wonders where we've gone and if we'll be back :( :red

First job when we get home from holidays is always to collect Murdock and the Girls. Second job is a cup of tea!

P.s I hope you both have a lovely holiday and congraulations on your up-coming wedding! xx>>>
