I have an amazing rescue piggy called Hamish who is getting on for 8 years old now. He lives with his younger, rumblestrutting friend Herbert.

However, I’ve never known such an amiable pig who literally gets on with any boar. He has been a wonderful playmate for my single boars. Rupert is now paired with Claudio but is still determined to see Hamish at any opportunity. I’d taken Herbert out for a cuddle and turned round to find Rupert had leapt into their cage and was sprawled out with Hamish! Cheeky imp!

Sadly my pairing of single Algernon with a rescue called Harry lasted just two months before Harry finally snapped after being henpecked for a long time. So Hamish is back to single pig sitting duties.

When I took him back to the pig room last night following his cuddle, all 5 other boys started squeaking as if they were giving him a hero’s welcome. Hamish struggles with his agility now and when he is having a bad day, they all sit watching him in concern from their neighbouring cages.

It will be a very sad day for all my pigs, not just me when he finally leaves us. He keeps on battling though.

I just thought I’d share this story of my very special pig who is friend to all 💕2211AE22-7193-44A0-9272-2FD5EEC7A9FE.webp

Aw, what a gorgeous boy, lovely photos of him x
Thank you! I think all my boys want to live with him. I do worry about him so much. I can see how much he has deteriorated and I am constantly battling to improve his weight due to his dental complications. Still, he does very well - is always the loudest squeaker for greens and enjoys sprawling out and watching the others play. He has the odd sprightly day but these are becoming less and less now sadly.

Fell blessed of having such a lovely natured piggy! Every now and then you come across one that is loved by everypig.

I have had the odd one over the years, and have special place in my heart for each of them: Taffy, the revered leader; Ceri, the friendly girl who got on with everypig; Terfel, the master diplomat; gentle Briallen, who accepts even the most anti-social piggy (and I have parked a few with her over the last few years!) ...

I cherish each day we have with Hamish and try to make his life as comfortable and happy as possible. I always say he picked me. When I saw him at the rescue 3 years ago, he instantly came to the bars and started squeaking his head off. I’ve had some piggies with very entertaining characters over the years but none quite so amiable with all other pigs.
I am lucky to be close to Northampton for his dental work with Simon. Our previous vet just does locum work now but we keep in touch and I often look after her piggies when she’s away. She is lovely and offers me lots of reassurance that I’m doing everything I can for Hamish when I’m worried!

Aww that’s so sweet! How lucky you are to have such a sweet natured (and do very handsome) little pig ❤️
It’ll be a sad day for you all when he goes but hopefully that won’t be for some time yet x
