Is he cleaning the other for a reason?

I’ve heard guinea pigs cleaning their cage mates meant that the one being cleaned means that they’re ill, the fluffy one keeps licking his face, at first I thought that he was nipping him and tried to gently push him away but then I saw he was trying to clean him, the smooth one kept nudging the fluffy one as well which I found weird, so do you think he’s ill or it’s just friendly cleaning?

They do just groom each other as a way of being friendly, it doesn’t have to be for any other reason. Unfortunately though there is no way for us to know whether there is an illness going on. Does he have any symptoms of an illness? . Only a vet can diagnose any problems

I’ve never seen him clean the other but other than that I havnt noticed anything, they do weigh more than the average guinea pig but ever since we adopted them they’ve been like that so that hasn’t drastically changed either

Probably worth a vet check just to set your mind at rest but some of mine often groom each other, its usually a friendly behaviour or a "wake up I want to play" behaviour.

Bill grooms Ted occasionally, its probably just pure friendship, keep an eye on the one being groomed for any signs of illness x

it is usually an affectionate sign,the dominant piggie will lick around the eye of the less dominant piggie.just observe any unuasual behaviours . its a lovely sign to see.

Mine groom each other, I think that's all it is, but if your not sure pop them to the vet.

My girls groom each other it’s lovely to see them looking after each other! Tea time is a different case each piggy for themselves!

My boar licks his sow around the eyes,and ears. I am told its to show he's boss and welcoming her to his leadership. She's not sick, and he's been doing this for about a year ( on and off of course).

If it’s exptesemlt excessive it could be barbering (this often happens with bereaved piggies, usually due to stress), but if not it’s probably just your piggy being friendly!
