I still feel very new to owning piggies.
I have 2 boars . One of them doesn't seem to like being picked up - which is fine - as long as he lets me handle him enough to check him over once in a while, weigh him and clip his nails. The other tolerates me picking him up. I have noticed recently that when he is in my arms or on my lap , he feels like he is buzzing (sorry, that's the best way I can describe it - a bit like a low key version of when your phone is on vibrate ) . Is he purring?

If he is going brr and shaking it means get off but if it is more of a purr it means ah lovely.

Is it like a rumblestrutting brr or different?

He's not shaking and I don't think he's particularly agitated. He doesn't make a noise at all and I don't think it's rumblestrutting. I've googled this subject and there seems to be conflicting opinions.

Here's two links

I think next time he does this, I'll offer him some food as this could be a good guide as to whether he's happy or not. I don't want to pick him up more than necessary if he doesn't like it.

Sounds to me like he is a very happy purring piggy. If it was an angry rumble there would be noise with it as well!

I hope so as I like giving him cuddles. I could do with a guinea pig psychologist:))!

If its like... brrr brrr brrr brr - sounds short and hard they call it motor boating which is not happy piggie

If it's like a brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr long you've got yourself a happy piggie there! :D

I will have to keep an open mind on this one. At least I now know this is normal for guinea pigs
