As some of you know Fred was neutered last wed 4th and i could not believe how great he was after. Eating, pooping, peeing fine. I had to take him back for a follow up app on sat just to check everything was ok down there etc. While we were there i asked the nurse to give him a mite treatment, as he has been sratching a lot for the past few weeks, and has small scabs where he has been nibbling himself, in one area of his back, and baths etc have not seemed to help. So she gave him a tube of stuff, while i held his hair apart at the root. Fred screamed at this as he did not like it.
Now everytime i pick him up he screams, I'm assuming that its cus he is fed up of being pulled about etc. He is also sleeping alot which is not like him as he always has to make some kind of racket or trash his cage etc. He is still eating, pooping and peeing ok also drinking too. I'm just wondering if its delayed reaction to the operation as he was so lively afterwards and everthing has caught up with him. We have to go back to the vet in 10 days from sat anyway but i am going to go back sooner if i get too worried.

What do you guys think?

Mites do hurt and can drag a guinea pig down whose immune system is lowered - like after an op. The mites treatment may have brought back memories; it happens and with your good care, he will get over it.

Are you still weighing him daily? Is he on his own? Many lonely piggies do tend to sleep a lot, also when they are healing.

I have had him since he was 4 weeks old so he has no bad memories. And yes he is on his own and has been on and off since his brother died. I tried him with another young male but it ended in tears, so neutering him and putting him with my 3 girls eventually is the last option for him to be happy. I just keep giving him lots of cuddles and he must be feeling down cus he has never been one to be out on me for long, he usually gets all irritable and starts squirming, but he is loving it at the moment. As for the weigghing bit, no I'm not weighing him daily. But saturday he was 1.2kg.
