My two guinea pigs Chaz and Dave have been living with each other for nearly 2 years. Dave has always been boss even though he is small, weighing in at 850g and Chaz 1100g. Both of them seem to get on and eat, sleep, drink with each other fine, so I was never concerned about any bullying. Chaz would bump into Dave, Dave would rumble strut or chatter and then after a few submissive squeals from Chaz, all would be perfectly fine again. This morning I've noticed Cha constantly trying to mount Dave. Dave has been purring, squealing, chattering-as has Chaz but Cha seems to constantly follow him around and mount him. Dave will be trying to drink, eat etc and Chaz won't leave him but seems to be ignoring Dave's annoyance sounds. Is Chaz trying to take over top spot? I'm just concerned for Dave as Chaz won't leave him alone and they are currently running round the cage. Will this settle and Chaz is just feeling 'excited'? I have had this issue with Chaz before but it wasn't as extreme and died down after 30mins or so.

It sounds like an odd hormone spike and should hopefully die down again after a day or two. Even adult neutered boars can experience them.

Just remove any hideys with just one exit and replace them with tunnels, children's stools or cardboard boxes.

Okay thank you, I am pretty sure it will die down but just concerned for little Dave. Chaz has seemed to back off a bit but it now barbering Dave (Peruvian) but he doesn't seem too bothered. Fingers crossed things settle back to normal!

As long as it doesn't come to fistycuffs, you are fine. As they are usually making up with each other afterwards, the shared experience can act to bond them even tighter together.
