Hello!
I'm wanting to give my guinea pigs a more varied diet by introducing more bits and bobs. They get different types of hays, veggies and forages but they're maybe a teency weency bit spoiled so I want to give them more things to try.

At my house in my garden, we have a honeysuckle bush. Its only just occurred to me that I could maybe feed my piggies it. I obviously didn't want to stick it in their cage without making sure its totally safe. I've tried researching it but I'm still a little unsure. So I'm basically wandering if guinea pigs can eat honeysuckle leaves and chew on the branches:)

We also have fuchsia trees that grow in our garden, could they eat the leaves and branches?

Thank you in advance!

Honey suckle and fuchsia would both be poisonous for guinea pigs.

If you plan to forage for your piggies a general rule of thumb is that most flowering garden bushes will be poisonous.

The best thing to do would be to find a list online, get a good plant identification book, and start from there.
Fields, hedgerows and grassy wasteland are much better sources of plants that most gardens.

But foraging can be dangerous if you make a mistake, so please be very certain you know what you are feeding your piggies before you give it to them.

Thanks everyone! Honeysuckle is going nowhere near my piggies, I'll just stick to putting them outside and letting them eat the grass and dandelions. thank you!

Didn't know they could eat sticky weed - you learn something everyday!

Mine devour hazel leaves - they are one of the most desirable treats on offer, and the kids often pick them a leaf or two on the way home from school.
But sometimes they get a whole branch and 'Branch day' is one of the best days of the week according to the piggies.

My building is surrounded by sticky weed and one day I decided to go and cut some. I had that damn weed stuck all over myself! I came back home with my famous grass-bag whose noise my piggies now recognise very well, they started squeaking very excited, I put down sticky weed and they ate just some leaves; then they changed their mind... No more sticky weed and it is a pity because it has great properties...

I think I'll have to go up to my late Mum's village and see if there are any foot long dandelion leaves again.:drool::drool::drool: There were loads last year when I was clearing her house out. I went up weekly and the piggies had a feast every week.:love: Then they cleared the ditches and chucked all the c**p from the ditches on to the banks and it was goodbye dandelion leaves! Well I suppose its best not to have flooded houses cos the ditches need clearing!
