Just been woken up by really loud angry rapid chirping noise! The piggies have been rumbling for a couple of days now, they get like this every now and then must b full moon! Peach was had been circling pebbles, and it looked either licking or just sticking her face into pebbles. But I was just woken up by loud angry chirping noises. I thought something was wrong so leapt up, they weren’t fighting or facing off but peach was just looking mad. You’d think they’d grow out of it by now! Is this normal, there turning into grumpy old ladies.

Chirping like a bird or teeth chattering?

Like an angry bird. I’m pretty sure it’s not happiness the amount of rumbling going on. Hopefully it will pass, just haven’t seen them so cranky b4.

Hearing chirping from them is rare and nobody really knows why they actually make the sound. Youre lucky to have heard it in that respect! There are reports of them being in a trance like state when they make the noise but there often is not obvious cause for it and many of us will never hear it to be able to put our own experience into the mix!

Thinking about it, I looked at her and she had been in the same position for awhile. It was weird and very loud,
Shame I was only half awake and didn’t record it.

I doubt that it is the moon; it rather sounds like some major tensions/a hierarchy struggle in your group. How old are your sows?
If they are adults, you might want to have them checked for ovarian cysts.
Sows: Behaviour and female health problems (including ovarian cysts)

I have noticed that chirping incidents have been more frequent in times when there were some major issues in one of my groups.

They are being very bad tempered at the moment, it’s been relentless for the last few days, they can b a bit grumpy with each other sometimes, but it’s defo gone up several notches. I think it’s peach causing the issues, she’s had cystitis/urine infections in the past. I’ll keep an eye on it and if it continues get her checked out. PS I was joking about the moon ;)

That sounds rather like a cystic sow to me...

All the best!
