My guinea pig Brownie is a female long haired coronet. I've noticed that she has large bump on her hips. (actually a bit below) It it round, no hair grows on it, and it's kind of squishy. I've read places that it could be a Lipoma, but I'm really not sure. Please get back to me! The picture below is the bump.

this is Brownie, being happy :)

Generally, you should always see a vet for any kind of lump as it is difficult to make a diagnosis over the internet without being able to feel the lump. From your description, it could rather be a cyst of some sort. Thankfully, the majority of lumps is not malign.

Sadly, I can't see the pictures.

Cant see the picture sorry. It could be, but an experienced hand should be able to tell you. Lipoma's generally feel a bit different to abcesses/cysts. If your worried get it checked by a vet?

x.

go to a vet, they generally do a fine needle aspirate and look at the types of cells/fluid under a mircoscope or send it off to a cytologist. or they can do a biopsy and send it off to a pathologist to look at the tissue type. you'll have a better idea of what it is and how to treat it. and you'll find out if it can reoccur etc..

unfortunatly its impossible to tell what it is just by looking :(

does it have a hole where fluid is draining from? if so it could be trichofolliculomas - which are described at the bottom of tis page with a link to some pictures : http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=63988

It's definitely worth seeing the vet, who might try to aspirate something from the lump to see what it is. My pig Linney had a lump on her back above the grease gland last summer... it turned out to be an abscess and was drained and she was given antibiotics, and when that failed to clear it up it was removed surgically under general anasthesia- luckily she did just fine both during and after the surgery. HTH and hope it turns out to be nothing! My vet did say that most guinea pig lumps are non-cancerous, but that some do need treatment anyhow.

The vet might even be able to tell without tests, if it's something like a lipoma. But it's really hard to tell unless you go to a vet, unfortunately. It could be something that needs treatment, but probably nothing serious, as long as it gets the treatment. Good luck with it :)
