I hope someone can help me. Connie and Eliza are out in the kitchen at the minute and I have noticed something red on the floor :( I have checked them both over and can not see any cuts or anything. The red stuff is kind of watery. They have done lots of poo's which appear to be normal looking. They have just had some carrot and apple (with red skin). Could this be blood? what can it be? I am worried :(

Is one of them in season?

Wee can be discoloured sometimes ... it can be sign of a urinary problem, which makes the wee very concentrated.

Could you look at their lady bits, and see if they might be on heat?

Hi Claire,

Can you put a light coloured towel down or a piece of fleece and see if it shows up red. Could be the carrot or could be that when they have pooped the urine has mixed with it making it a pinky shade.

Hope they are ok,

Louise

Thank you for the quick responses. I wiped it up with a piece of kitchen towel and this is what it looked like

It looks more of an orange colour than a red colour. There has been no more since. I have looked at their lady bits and they look normal. What would they look like if one of them is on heat. Also, what should I be looking out for if it is a urinary problem? x

Doesn't look like blood, I agree. More like carrot juice!

If it's a urinary infection their wee would be a dark colour because it's concentrated and would smell more, and they'd probably be drinking more than usual?

I haven't noticed them drinking more and their wee doesn't smell. They are acting normally. If there was something wrong would they be making any noise/acting different or anything? x

It does look an orangey colour from that photo and seeing that they have been eating carrots, it could be that causing it.
Are they are eating well, drinking the same amount as usual and not crying or arching their backs when they wee or pass poo pellets?

Keep an eye on them and if it looks blood colour next time, best thing would be to pop and see your vet. Taking a sample of it with you if possible on some more kitchen roll.

Hopefully though all will be ok.

I have them out again today and have now found out that it is Eliza doing these wee's. Here is one that she did on their towel

It is still an orangey colour and she has only done this one (that is this colour) since the one yesterday. They have again eaten carrots though. They are both eating, drinking and acting normally. No cries or arched legs.

It's probably a good idea to cut out the carrots for a day or so and see if her urine changes back to normal. If not, get her to a vet because UTI's are painful and can make her feel quite poorly. She might need antibiotics.

I looked in the girls hutch last night and there was some red / orangey stuff in the corner where they wee :( OH has had them out today and they both did a massive wee that was a normal colour. Does this mean that they are now ok? Should I take them to the vets just in case or just keep a close eye on them and see if it returns? They are acting perfectly normally so I don't think that there is anything wrong x

If they are eating, drinking and pooping normally I would probably just keep a close eye on them for the next day or so.

Has it disappeared now you've cut out the carrots? I've experienced something similar with carrots myself before. If they're acting normally then I reckon they're fine. Any changes take them to a vet. I'm glad it's sorted now :)

I noticed today that there were red bits again on their towel. I'm pretty sure thats it's Eliza with the problem as the red bit was there after she'd had a wee. I have took a urine sample from both of them and I have a vets appointment for tomorrow evening as I'm at work this afternoon and OH won't be home in time. The urine that I have collected is clear in colour but I'm assuming that there will be traces if there is an infection or something :(
