A few months ago one of my guinea pigs got a surgery for removing a bladder stone and now he has another big one. He squeaks a lot when he pees and sometimes when he poops as well. We've been trying pain management instead of euthanasia but it doesn't seem to be helping. He's on Tramadol, Gabapentin, Meloxicam, Cerenia, and occasional children's Tylenol. I can't afford another surgery (the last one was almost $2,000) and I don't know what to do because other than the squeaking and occasional not moving much, he acts normal. He comes running for his food in the morning, he's still eating and drinking a lot in general, etc. I just don't know what to do.

This may be better in the bereavement support centre, @Piggies&buns may be able to move it.

It's really hard to make the call. My guide is when they are maxed out on their painkillers dose (as long-term liver function is no longer an issue) and no longer want to Pig (enjoy veggies, or hay, or company) it is time.

It's really damned hard to call, but releasing them from that sort of pain is the kindest thing to do.

I'm sorry you're going through this, it's so tough.

I am sorry you are going through this, it's a tough call to have to make. I have been in this position a few times with different piggies and am always glad of the guidance of my vet on when to decide enough is enough.

I’m so sorry. I agree. Make sure he’s on good amounts of pain medication. When he no longer runs to come for food then the bridge is calling.
