Hi,

Does anyone else believe that Guinea Pigs are addictive?

I currently have 3 sows and a neutered boar. I also have 5 hamsters and 2 Rabbits but there is something about Guineas! Don't get me wrong, I adore all my pets, they are my life, but Guineas have something special!

My boar, Bertie, has such a cute little mouth. He had a rough start in life and was removed from his previous home by RSPCA inspectors but he is so sweet! I have only had him a week and already he is showing trust in me.

This may also sound wierd but does anybody else enjoy cleaning them out?!?! I clean my Bunnies and Guineas at least 2-3 times a week (more in the summer) and it makes me feel good to know they are all clean and warm :))

Maybe I'm just strange! ;)

Couldn't agree more, started with one, now got 40 ... rolleyes

I enjoy cleaning them too. Everyone else thinks I'm mad, because it takes so long with that many, but I like knowing they're all clean and fed and warm and dry ...

Piggy Addicts Anonymous?

Hehe...yeah!

We should start a PAA club, although I don't want to stop being addicted!

40? Wow! That's amazing! I bet it's good fun!

Fun - yes, sometimes! Lots are rescues so it's nice when they get good homes. Not so much fun if they are sick, like at the moment - Harry's not well, I've been trying to feed him and am now wearing most of it - not sure any actually went in!

Worth it though, definitely, I find it best not to count really rolleyes

I also have two rabbits who I love dearly but there's just something enchanting about the piggies, I can sit and watch them for ages and yes I like cleaning them out too. It's satisfying when you see them in that spotless cage untill you blink that is and they've pooed everywhere:)

40! i cant believe it!

Piggy Addicts Anonymous? - lol we should set up a section on here for it!

Oh dear...there is no hope for me then!

I have already agreed to take on 4 more from piggybaker! I am lucky that I have a fairly patient OH (although he does get a bit jealous of all the attention my furry friends get!)

Oh well, there are a lot worse things to be addicted to!

I'm addicted to piggies! I've kept guinea pigs since i was 7 (so if i were to count them all, i think i've had about 15 piggies) i can't just gave up having them. I'm so used to it. When one dies, i have to have another one, because the house is lonely without those little critters and i have nothing to cuddle and clean out.:))
I love cleaning them out too. I cleaned Cookie out today, most of the hay was all gone because of her eating it and because it's cold today, her house looked cold so cleaned her out, added extra hay and i was quite pleased that she was now going to be warmer. :)

i may have to join paa aswell. i had three last night and 8 this morning. I'm thrilled!

You are very lucky to have those little babies!

Are you going to keep them?

most definatly since the day after i got my 3 ive been thinking about when to get another i think this could end up being something big :{:))

Yeap, keeping guinea pigs is very addictive ... one is not enough!

Nor two, or three, or four and so on .... :)):))

I have four and would love to have sooo many more. I'd love to keep loads of sows in a big room sized C&C cage and have one neautured boar in there. They'd be so well cared for. I love everything about them. xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Yes they are addictive!

After I got Heidi I was lyk....hmmm....maybe another one :L and I'm actually getting another one lol

Although her and Toby wake me up at seven every morning to feed them lmao

I like cleaning mine out too, I think its because they seem so happy when they are in a nice clean dry hutch! bless them, they do make me laugh with their little up turned noses, poking out looking like they want to know whats going on!xoxoxoxoxoxo

Same here Toby loves it when I just pile loads of new fresh hay on (he gets that anyway but always likes it more when his cage has just been cleaned) I love watching him headbutt it lol

I would love more. I have two girls and two boys in outside hutches. Problem is I only have enough indoor space over winter for four. Oh well more love for these. x

We've got eight now and started off earlier this year with four but one sadly died. We then got two more and a few weeks later added another three.:(|) So yes they are addictive.:) Also got a Roboroskvi hamster but he's old now and when he dies I'm not having any more hamsters.

You should get a hamster...they are awesome!

Roborovski's are great but you can't really handle them as they are REALLY fast and tiny!

Syrians are great (especially boys in my opinion!) :)

i've had four syrians! two boys and two girls, the girls were easier in my opinion. but my joseph was soooo shy, he hated being touched, and maxwell had a whole body infection basically when i got him and died when he was just four months old. i gave him the best home and spoilt him rotton, though he was savage as he was so poorly

I just find boys a bit more laid back! Lol!
they probably are. maxwell was very poorly from day one. and Joseph was one on his own. one in a million. he died on the same day that i got pheobe and ruby 29th march 2008, and i still miss him like crazy

this was his best side

feel sorry for the prisoner!

Aw, he's a cutie!

One day my OH will come home to a house full of piggies with my 2 bunnies and 5 little hamsters peeking over the top! ;)

Now, that would be the perfect way to live! :)

deffo would be!

joseph made many a hamster hater go gooey! he was so lovely, he never bit but he nearly had a heart attack if you picked him up! he never warmed to it. poor babe. x

I think many non-animal enthusiasts look at you as if you're crazy when you tell them that each animal has it's own very individual personality.

I took one of my hamsters to the vet the other day and the vet was amazed that I would spend a lot of money to make sure she was better as she said most people wouldn't bother as their view is that they can always get another one! God, that makes me so angry! Each one of my pets, from my rabbits to my fish, are a member of my family and I would do anything for them. They are not 'replacable'.

Well, that's my little rant for the day ;)
