Hello, I'm new here. I had my guinea pig for 2yrs now and last month I think she had her period. Does it last long? cause I'm still seeing blood in the cage. It's been 3 weeks now, It's only a little bit but I'm worried. Should I take her to the vet? thanks

Take her to the vets. This is not her period. She would have started coming on heat since she was around six weeks of age. :)

yes straight to the vets.
welcome by the way, you will find this forum full of good advice

welcome :)

Do take her to the vets ASAP, and let us all know how you get on. :)

Hi, me again! I just came from the vet and she told me that it's a urinary infection and she gave her an injection :'( an antibiotic. I'm taking her for another visit this friday to check her. Thanks to u all for the advice.

Welcome ;D

Pigs don't bleed like humans or dogs do, they are just in season (which is their time of the month) I think it happens every 3 - 4weeks since about 2 - 4weeks after they're born.

Glad to hear shes been taken to the vets :) Best of luck for her!

Off topic: Do you have any pigtures of the little sweetheart?

Hey I've just been looking at my new book - Guinea Pig lopaedia - and it says "from time to time gpig urine contains a red pigment called porphyrin. Sometimes its associated with eating food rich in vitamin A such as dandelions. Sometimes there is no obvious cause. This condition is not associated with disease. ......red urine should not be mistaken for infection in the bladder (cystitis) or stone formation in the bladder".

Thought I would just note this down because it could help someone in the future...

Poor dear but UTIs normally clear up well and quite quickly. Your guinea should make a full recovery. Keep us informed. :)

Poor thing:( Sometimes in their urine is a white color, and they lick it. Is this normal? My pigs do that

They are hysterical...

What is this white subtance? And why do they do this?

Hello everybody, me again!! I went to the vet today to have my piggie have her check-up and the vet told me that she's ok now and that she doesn't need anymore antibiotics :smitten: I'm reeeeally happy.
