I knwo that a lot of people do, and I have looked at the gorgeous guinea products. But isn't it like cats - if you bathe them once you have to keep bathing them because of stripping the natural oils in their skin and fur? ::)

How necessary is it really to bath guinea pigs? :)

Really I think it depends on the breed of piggy although it is probably a good idea to bath all piggies at some point. My texel tilly needs a bath usually every 4-6 weeks as she gets into a mess and her hair mats around the bottom too so I trim and bath. The other piggies get bathed probably once every 4-6 months. By the way the gorgeous guineas products are lovely and very good value!

Personally I bath my piggies every 4-6 weeks. I think it helps prevent any ski problems (mites etc...) but I know people who don't bath theirs. My pigs have never had any skin problems but I couldn't tell you if this is anything to do with the baths I might just be lucky.

Although my pigs don't enjoy the bath itself they seem to love being clean afterwards when I put them back in their cage. GG products are great, they are all I use now and I agree with Dazie they are very good value as they go a long way.

Give it a go, you'll be amazed how much dirt come out! ::)

i dont bath my piggies unless they are dirty, my girls have prob had a bath once in their 5 1/2 years of being with me.. they keep themselves clean..

now i hace a longer haired pig i might bath him more regularly but normally i dont bath mine on a regular occasion.

I hardly bath mine but if you bath piggys too much it can be worse off than bathing them as they can get dry, flakey and itchy skin O0

ashamed to say but george had her FIRST ever bath last week and she's nearly 4 :P. All my others are babies so you can tell me off ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I dont think you should bath piggies more than once every 4-6 months, or if they are ill. :)

I bath mine every four months, but brush/comb when I feel they need it. Merry is terrible he gets everything stuck in his fur(he's a rexie!), and he's started not to groom himself enough so mummy to the rescue! :D lol, I'm about to give him a good groom. Pippin is very good and just scrubs himself right up every day lol. My piggies are out door pigs, and they haven't suffered from it. I think it keeps the hair healthier, and the skin free of any bugs! ;)

I bath mine more in the summer (every 6-8 weeks) and warmer months than in the winter. My coronet is a mucky pup so he needs bathed about 4-6 weeks apart regardless.
