I'm a first time guinea pig owner and I got a baby piggy about a week ago. I have yet to hear a peep out of the little guy but he seems healthy, he's been eating a lot and seems happy as he has been popcorning quite a bit. Are some piggies just quiet? Is he still settling in and would he start talking when he feels more comfortable?
He's a really sweet little guy though. He's warming up to me quite fast, but he's still a little skittish. I have never encountered a mute piggy before.

Hi and welcome!

Is he a single piggy? In that case, he is very likely a) missing company of his own own kind and is b) still feeling rather out of his depth. Please consider getting him a same sex playmate in th not too far future. You are bound to enjoy the lively interaction wbetween two piggies so much more!

Hi and welcome. Guinea pigs tend to be more talkative when they live with another piggy. Does he have a friend?

It can take months for piggies to be comfortable so don't worry too much. I have a quiet pig and an extremely loud one!

All piggies are different but a buddy would be a good move for him. I have a very chatty piggie bonded with a quite one who only makes sounds for his food. My two younger boys are constantly chattering to one another. It takes times for piggies to settle as already been mentioned, keep interacting with the little one as much as you can until you can find a little friend if it possible good luck x

He may be chattier with a friend. It increases their confidence and gives them someone to 'talk' to. He may also still be settling in. Cautious or nervous piggies may be quieter. My pigs have varied in how much they talk, from the strong silent type to those that wheek for food so loud I can hear them two floors up to those who 'talk' during lap time to the point that they interfere with me hearing the TV. There's a wide range of normal.
