Hi everyone, I'm not sure if its normal for guinea pigs to make noises while urinating, our guinea pig has been making noises while urinating ever since we got him so I have always thought it was normal. Just in general, is it normal for them to making any noises while urinating? Thanks.

It depends on the noise. How long have you had him? If they squeak while urinating then it can sometimes be a sign of pain which may point to a urinary infection.
It’s always best to see a vet for any concerns though - we are only guessing and cannot replace a vet actually having a hands on check of your piggy

about 3 years. So it depends on the noise? So some noises are normal?

I don’t think they usually make noises when peeing - mine don’t anyway. I’d take piggy to the vet for a check over just to be on the safe side. Better to take him and it turns out to be nothing, than not and it is something.

Are you sure he’s urinating when doing the noise? Also, does he have a companion?

Hi and welcome

Piggies shouldn't make any noises when peeing or pooing and shouldn't be straining.

Please see a vet for a urinary tract infection (UTI) or a bacterial or sterile interstitial cystitis (IC).
Please ask for an analgesic (anti-inflammatory and painkiller like metacam) in addition to the antibiotic if your vet is only prescribing an antibiotic. The analgesic is important for your piggies' comfort and more effective in the case you are dealing with a cystitis and not a urine infection. All three present with pretty much the same symptoms.
The first two will react to the antibiotic; the last one won't or will come back as it is sterile, i.e. non-bacterial. It is usually diagnosed by default after every other urinary tract problem has been ruled out.

As both of your piggies are obviously doing it, it is however less likely that you are dealing with a non-infectious problem like bladder stones or sludge. ;)
