Recently I have noticed that one of my guinea pigs (Pecan - see picture - Lilac) tends to mount (Maple - see picture - Black & Ginger). It doesn't happen very often, and I don't know whether to be concerned, amused or slightly worried :^-

It mainly only happens when Pecan is having her 5 minutes - running around & pop corning all over the place and if Maple happens to be in her route, Pecan does try to mount her.

I spoke to my Vet about it and he said its nothing to be concerned about but... what are you're thoughts?

I've only ever had males when growing up and never more than one. (Parents rules suck when they refuse to allow me more then one pet without realising the consequences of potential lonely Pig Pigs)

When Pecan first mounted Maple I thought I was seeing things and my boyfriend kept missing it so he thought I was making it up.

Sounds like perfectly normal behaviour for a sow in heat. One of my girls mounts the others all the time, she'll usually do it none stop all day when she's in heat then stop until she's in heat again. Despite having owned four female piggies before getting this one I'd never seen my girls mounting each other until i got Rio.

Yes, this is normal behaviour for sows. Mine often do it. It happens about every 2 weeks when they're in season.

In heat every two weeks? ... I have no place to complain about lady issues when Pecan is potentially in heat every two weeks!

Jesss,

I have never seen mounting girls before until I got two girls. I honestly had them checked to make sure they weren't boys lol.

Mine have fits of chasing and mounting last night as they are in my bedroom they kept me awake all night as one was chasing and mounting. It doesn't last long though and all will go quiet again until next time.

The crackers thing is is when the one being mounted popcorns after it happened.

I did the same checking they were both female :) it's only ever Pecan that's mounts Maple, and it's Pecan who always pop corns. Haha Maple is more interested in food then anything else

It's usually the more dominant one that does it. This works all down the line if you have a group of sows living together. It's eased off now mine have a toy boy neutered boar living with them.

Ooh... Is wierd cos Pecan is so much cuddlier then Maple who just wants to run free, think they would probably scare off a male.
