Hi all

It's sunny today (finally) and it seems such a shame to not have the pigs out in the grass. I've read mixed advice about whether they can go out when the grass is damp. Please advise?

Thanks xx

I have had my pigs out on slightly damp grass before and as long as it is not soaking wet they should be fine. Try to move the run into the sun so the grass will be drier and they can also keep warm and sunbathe. Check their paws and bellies before you put them away and if they are wet, just dry them off. Hope they have fun:D

I put mine on the grass when it is damp. Not soaking wet with dew or rain but just damp and they are fine. I walk over the grass first to check if it is too damp for them if the grass soaks my toes then the piggies don't go on it.

I know! It's so difficult deciding whether to risk it or. You know they love to be out and about but swither because of our unpredictable weather etc.
I usually leave mine in until late morning when, hopefully, the sun has crept round to warm and dry the grass a bit. My Piggy Palace has a roof over the front area so I'll put the less robust piggies in a run there - these two don't move around much! The boys though, run about so fast I'm sure they hardly touch the grass! Only one of the babies has ventured through their outside hatch as yet and I don't open this until grass feels ok.

Thanks all! Its reassuring to hear that you put them out when it's just slightly damp. Xx

I have a north facing back garden so it gets the sun first thing and it starts to dry the grass from the moment the sun has lazily climbed over the wall of my garden so my piggies can go out from 9am some mornings.

I find it depends how cold it is on ground level. I prefer cutting and drying off grass when it's damp and feed inside

Spike and Peanut are OK on very slightly damp grass as they sit in their hutch box with hay when they are not eating. I don't put Willow and Brackrn out if it's damp because Willow will lie on the damp grass.

I normally towel dry the grass if it's wet before hand , not scrubbing it dry but flicking the towel so it absorbs most of the moisture ... am I weird to do this hahaha

Yup! But we do the strangest things for our pets!

Tbf I think they wanna be outside more than inside and as I work and want them out most of the day if it's nice I just flick over the towel nice and dry and it also prevents UTIS  but maybe I'm mad

@MJG I dont think your mad - I do that too when the wet is just dew and only on the top of the grass I give it a good blot! I have an old towel hanging in the green house especially for this purpose.
