So reading other posts on bladder issues, I just realized that we are feeding our trio a grain less pellet.
This is what we feed.

They are 4 months old, and stopped eating their previous complete food (Bunny Young).
They love the Vitacraft pellets, and also receive a variety of unlimited hay, as well as daily fresh veg and grass.

Their growth has been slow but steady, and at 4 months old they all weigh between 630 - 670 grams.

So my question is, does it matter that their pellets are grain less?

And just because you can never have too many photos of guinea pigs...

I think quite a lot of members feed grainless pellets. I am v envious of your pigs' weights! I have three rescue girls who are *about* 8 months old (probably, ish) and they are the same weight range as yours! I'm keeping them on alfalfa based pellets whilst they are still growing but want to switch to grainless when they're fully grown

It's a good thing to feed grainless pellets as they are less likely to contribute towards inflammation which can cause a number of health issues. Mine have Vitakraft too.

Mine have grainless too (JR Farm) although I do have normal Burgess as the kids love to give them one as they go past so they get a few little ones over the day and then a few proper big grainless ones too. In an ideal world I would drop the Burgess and stick with the JR Farm. They smell so good apart from anything else!

gorgeous piggy xx

:D Aaaaww, cute little fella! He doesn't look very comfortable there!

I have just ordered a bag of JR Grainless pellets to try with my girls. They have been on Bunny Basic and Harrington's for a couple of years now. The Bunny lasts a long time. Last time I ordered a bag was Feb, so the Vitamin C has probably perished by now. It's a case of swings and roundabouts; If the pellets go quickly, (Like Harri's) you have to buy them more often. If they last a long time, (like the Bunny) the Vit C perishes.

Thanks for all of the replies.
I feel much better about it now, and the pigs seem to like it which is the most important thing I guess!

:D I've been thinking of trying mine with Meadow Menu instead of the Bunny pellets. Some people on here are a bit wary of them due to the Yukka plant content, though it is such a small amount, I did not think it would do any harm.
@luckyandsammy , how have your piggies been doing on them?

They have been on them since December or January (I'm not sure) and I think they are great! The piggies love them :)
Yucca is one of the last ingredients on the list so I'm not worried about it. I love how there are so many grasses in it!

:D The Meadow menu are very similar to the Bunny pellets in that they both have a great variety of grasses and plants in them. I'm going to order a box and see how my girls like them. :tu:
