Both my pigs are looking a little yellow (on their formally white areas) despite their cage being cleaned every 2 days. Is it ok to wash them? If so what is a good procedure to go through with this?

yes guineas should be washed at least every 6 months for shorthairs and every 2-3 for longhairs,Gorgeous guineas have a great piggy shampoo range, ive found the best way is in a small tub on the carpet so if they happen to wriggle free they dont fall from a great height, putting a flannel under there feet can help them feel more secure as they hate it when there feet slide on the bottom of the tub/bath

Bath time is great

:(|)Yes cavies love bath time,mine love a bath !
I use baby shampoo but there are animal shampoos you can buy.
You will need:
Bowl of warm water
Gentle shampoo and rinse with fresh bowl warm water.
I have two bowls ready to shampoo and dip straight after.
Good time to clip nails and generally check hair condition.
Have towels ready and protect inside of ears and eyes, but you can gently clean around outside of ear.
Happy bathing

they can be washed Gorgeous Guineas (just google them as i can't remember website address) shampoo is fab. My avatar is my long hair who is creamy coloured on most of her body (she's had a hair cut in the photo) is bathed a couple of times a month as she is one of those piggles who like to sit in their own urine! rolleyes You have to make sure they are completely dry before putting them back in thier cages. I blow dry mine on low until mostly dry then they have a play on the floor in the living room until completely dry.

they can be quite difficult sometimes, one of mine stands like a good little girl, the other tries to leap out of the sink!

good luck and let us know how you get on.

I would have no quibbles about bathing indoor piggies at this time of year but i would not do an outdoor piggy at this time of year unless it was a must! Due to temperature fluctuations in bathing and drying them and making sure they are absolutely bone dry before they go back outside or you run the risk of them catching a cold

www.gorgeousguineas.com is the web address for Gorgeous Guineas shampoos. They ship worldwide, the shampoos are ideal for guineas and some are created specifically for piggies with skin problems.

For white piggies, the Lice 'n' Easy shampoo is great - it's primary job is to deal with visible parasites (lice) but it leaves white haired piggies very clean looking!

I washed mocha today and she actually seemed to like the water! I was really surprised. She looks pretty again now ;D I decided to hold off on washing moo because she is short coat anyway and I am not 100% sure she isn't pregnant and I didn't want to stress her if she is

I wash my two. But only if they need it. Sometimes Maisey can get abit wet from her wee around her bum area and it makes her white areas yellow so i like to bath her then. I bath Cookie when her fur looks abit dull and greasy looking.
