Is it strange to want it celebrate your piggies'/pets' birthdays? And by celebrate I mean have some extra cuddles with a small plate of nicely stacked veggies, and floor time with a new chew tube?My OH thinks it's very strange, and that made me feel bad for some reason. I don't feel like I can do it now, because it's freaky and strange. I love my piggies and just want to share a little extra joy on one day a year. :(

Nope it's not strange at all. It's really nice to see them enjoying a new toy or a favourite veggie treat, go on enjoy yourself. I'm sure we all get enjoyment from seeing our pets happy just as we get enjoyment from seeing family and friends happy. Hope they enjoy their birthdays.

Well, we don't know whether this is her actual birthday, but we've chosen today to mark Bernadette (most likely) being 3. We adopted her in early March last year, and she was about 2 then. I bought a little number candle, put some veggie slices on a plate and bought a new toy. I know a lot of people don't celebrate pet birthdays, and I'll be honest, I've never done it before. But it's nice to mark it as I love them all to pieces :)

Happy birthday Bernadette! I expect pigtures, you know that don't you? :))

Oh please do not feel you cannot do this any more. It is a lovely thing to do.

We make a big fuss of our piggies birthdays xoxo They give you so much throughout the year its only fair to celebrate along with them ;) We also make a small donation to a rescue when one of our piggies has their special day so that piggies waiting for their forever homes can share some nom noms with our small herd of four at present. Whichever piggy has their birthday, their photo becomes our computer screen wallpaper until the next birthday x)

So go on make the fuss - its totally worth it ! :(|)

Lisa & Ali xx

me thinks its more strange not to celebrate! my pets always have added extra's on their birthdays or anniversaries... or both... oh and Christmas presents too. the girls & i think your OH may need some party-time educating @)@) , honestly i bet he would complain if you didnt celebrate his birthday? :o:o

come on, cake & cucumber all round please OH:)):))

& pics to prove it tooxx>>>

Well, how can I refuse requests like that?
This is the beautiful princess Bernadette. We don't know her birthday exactly, but we adopted her when she was 'about 2' and so we're guessing that 11 months on, she must be 'about 3' by now!

I made her a little piggie cake... (candle removed before giving to piggies, of course!)

And a new chew tube, which she quite enjoyed :)

I even got some cuddles afterwards without a massive panic about being brushed/trimmed

She does like to show off her chinny chin and piggie lips...

The little piggie cake is 3 piles of cucumber, carrot and red pepper slices, with a cherry tomato chopped in half in the middle, and a little sprig of tenderstem broccoli (her favourite veggie) at the back :) I was happy with it :)) x

x>>Fab pics & glad she had her birthday do :)) hope you had a good time? she is so sweet & all that lovely fuzzy hair x>>

Awwww I love Bernadette, beautiful girl x) and pretty name. Bet she loved her cake.

She is gorgeous, very high maintenance but gorgeous :) She's mummy to the 'Cloud Babies', which is why they're so gorgeous too! The cake did disappear very quickly lol.
Bernadette was named so by Jo at Milhaven; she came into rescue very poorly and then, during treatment, they found out she was pregnant. Bernadette means 'brave little bear' - we didn't think it was right to change it :)

no way!
we have balloons and banners and birthday cards, and my mum comes round for a little party, we have a selection of nibbly herbs and cake for hooomans. :))

If you're strange, well then I must be crazy! (NB my mum made the cake as I refused to go near raw liver...therefore she is mad too!)

That they were made to sit and look at for a photo, before they were allowed to eat it :))

But Molly says if you don't look at it, then it's not really there!

Why not make sure the hoomans get some cake-for-hoomans or similar too. Would that make it feel less strange for OH? Whon needs an excuse for cake anyway? Pigs birthdays are as good an excuse as any!

I got a new pig yesterday and rescue lady thinks she is 'about 2'. So I have opened myself a bottle of wine to celebrate her 'birthday' and her new home :-)

Aw your not strange so don't feel bad - it's my Muffin's birthday today, shes 7!

We've celebrated with a kitchen tube full off veggies and lots of snuggles.

Happy birthday to your piggy! x

We haven't had our piggies long but I think they born around June 2011, so we've decided their birthday will be celebrated on June 1st. We got them for my son's birthday in November so are also going to give them a treat on Zac's birthday too. They did of course get Xmas presents as well.

Lisaali what a lovely idea to give to the rescue centre, I think I'll do that too.

Gorgeous pics, bernadette is beautiful, as are the doggies x

Well we have a couple of months until the next one - my little baby pig Stewart will be 1 in April :))
