I was wondering if girls can get a spring/summer hormone spike that causes rather dramatic seasons? Lady Piggle (queen of the scary season hormones) has been very calm all winter and I though she'd grown out of her regular hormonal rages when she got past her teenage phase but this evening... wham! Suddenly my newly cleaned cage reeks of hormonal lady wee, Piggle is rumble strutting around, had a proper dominance stand off with her cousin Puggle (lots of hissing and teeth chattering and lunging, fur stood on end) then she humped big boss lady Clover up and down the cage like crazy! Clover had a strong season a few days ago too and humped Blodwen up and down the cage. Husboar Theo barely gets a look in, its all ladies humping each other and challenging each other. He doesnt mind, he just watched and hid behind Aunty Jezzy floof who never gets involved in that sort of thing, and him and Jezzy ate the the other pigs dinner while they were busy dominating each other! I just wondered if its a time of year thing, or a random one off, or maybe triggered by Clover's strong season- Piggle has been so nice for the last few months and its been so calm recently...

Betsy used to have strong seasons where she would turn into DEVIL PIGGY and hump anything that moved, be really nippy, hated cuddles and totally changed her personality usually the most loving, sweetest pig you'd ever meet only nipping when she needed a wee and you were cuddling her. She hasn't had a strong season for about a year now so as far as Betsy is concerned it's not the season for strong seasons. Velvet and Meg aren't drama queens at all and I have never noticed when they are in season. It could have been triggered by Clover.

It's more to do with hormones and the according pheromones that can trigger more strong seasons.

I have been through multiple sows coming into season over the course of 3-4 days until all sows close enough to coming into season had been. The pheromones felt like a cloud you cut with a knife...

These moster seasons can happen totally out of the blue in any season.

Jess has always been a bit of a hormonal nightmare too, she’d rub her bum all over Rupert’s face, he’d try and ‘help’ and she’d kick his butt for trying, then hump him! Rumbling and purring around like a crazy lady! The noises sometimes :yikes: do wonder what my neighbours thought was going on! Not every time she was in heat thankfully, maybe every six weeks or so. Poor Rupert!

Having started the chaos Piggle is now taking a nap in the hayloft! But Theo can smell someone is in season and tried his luck with Clover. He got bodyslammed into the floor then she humped him instead! Not quite how its meant to go but fortunately Theo is an affable and obliging little chap who is quite happy to be dominated by his pack of hyena ladies occasionally... he's off to try his luck with Blodwen now... no luck there either but she's sitting in some nice hay so that's ok... maybe its almost nap time for confused little boars!

Bless him, poor Theo! Hopefully he likes it really, a pack of strong confident hyena piggy ladies beating him up! :)) Certainly keep him occupied! :)
If it gets a bit too much for him he comes out for a cuddle and spends an hour hiding in piggydaddy's jumper eating secret late night man snacks and having some guy time :)

The last month or so’s been quite here. Chewie is the only one who has noticeably strong seasons and for a couple of months in the spring it was awful! I wouldn’t be surprised if the extra stress of been her main hump-target triggered poor BB’s mite reaction!

I'm wondering if Puggle is coming into season too... the Piggle-Puggle combination is the worst, they were my first 2 piggies, cousins born in the same hutch a week apart, the got along great for all of 5 weeks but ever since Piggle first had a noticeable strong season at 16 weeks old they've had a dominance/rivalry issue to settle most seasons... they are now both fluffed up glaring daggers at each other from opposite corners of the kitchen area! Theo has run away to the other end of the cage doing a weird rumble-strut-with-submissive-squealing thing, may be time to rescue him or take him a snack...
This reminds me exactly why I expanded the herd and got a massive cage, the hormonal Piggle-Puggle combination really needs the 26 sq ft of space and 4 other piggies to dilute it a bit! Its rarely been an issue since they passed the teenage months (they are 18 months old now) but tonight we are having a bit of a hormone flare up...

She sounds rather desperate! And poor Theo trying and failing. He definitely needs some man time now.

One of my sows has had stronger seasons the last two. She’d try humping her mate and mounting as well, though she’s never really allowed hard as she tries. 🤷🏾‍♀️ I’m surprised she hasn’t been sprayed with wee, not that I’ve noticed anyway.

Oh dear whatever happened during the night everyone is a bit subdued this morning, little Puggle has come off worst and is hiding on her own and wont join the others for hay... I dont think she's injured because I lifted up her hidey house to check she was ok and she ran the 6ft length of the biggest cage section at lightening speed... she's very spooked... Piggle who started all this is going round making submissive apologies to Blodwen and Clover, Theo is fine and he's temporarily moved up the herd ranks by letting boss pig Clover hump him and now he's lying next to her looking very relaxed sharing her hay, Jezzy floof as always is aloof and completely uninvolved in any herd politics like a big fluffy cloud who just waddles about eating hay oblivious to what's going on... but poor little ginger Puggle seems to have been bumped down the herd ranks, she relies on being Theo's favourite and being bossy and refusing to back down for her herd status and she must have upset Theo a lot and lost her dominance face-off with Piggle... so an overnight reshuffle its like the government but much more interesting! Clover is boss, then Blodwen, then today Theo, then temporarily submissive Piggle, then Puggle. Jezzy is asleep in the toilet as usual and doesnt have a rank except coming top for the floofiest pants.
I hope little Puggle is ok, I'll leave them to settle for now then check her over properly at poop scoop time this afternoon... at least we have a vets appointment this evening for Jezzy's swollen nipple so if Puggle has hurt anything except her pride we can take her in as well!

Aah really hope she’s not injured, hopefully just a bit stressed poor lady. Hope it all calms down soon. Oh these sows, such politics all the time!
Hope Jezebel’s appointment goes well x
