Is it too soon to put them in their play pen?

My god, I think they are getting worse! :0

I spent ages in the pet shop and Morrisons buying treats and veg, I put a brand new fleece down under their pen and made it so nice and they hated it so much, they tried to squeeze through the bars, so hard it scared me and I had to get them straight out. 8...

I am already sad because 3 of my fish have died since yesterday. 8...

I have more pics though! Just thought I would throw my hammy and pooch in there too! (He is 7 tomorrow!) :<>

Have you put in some things where they can hide in at first while they explore their new territory? That might help a lot - they are just frightened and wanted back to their cage while you were cleaning it out.

This time will have been the worst. Soon they will enjoy their play pen. Just let them get their bearings first, and in a few weeks you won't recognise your piggies!

I had put in water, a paper bag, some grass/hay, veg and put their bed in but nothing worked, they were in it literally minutes.

I will leave it a week or so, they are going to have to endure my hands coming in for their poo! :o

my little guinea pigs loved large cardboard boxes, try to make sure that its big enough for them both to hide in though, as we found that they became territorial over the box if it was only big enough for one.

they loved a large tube we also bought for them, covered in hay and grass so they can chew it as well as hide in it, and they loved running through it again and again!

the texture of the fleece will be different to the texture of the floor of the cage, as well as being a new and strange environment so its just a matter of getting used to it! once they know that no harm will come to them, they will start to relax a little more!

I wish they realised how much we love them! I can't do enough for them!

My last guinea was a rescue, all her friends were killed by foxes and she was the remaining one, she was a WRECK, totally expected, and it took her ages to trust us. Once she was my friend, I used to hold her on her back and tickle her belly and she had a little smile. :)

I am not used to babies though, she was definately an adult. Think we had her a good 5 years after we got her. :)

I dont think you'll make them ill. Did you put hidey holes in the pen with them ?

i think you need some hiding spots that have a roof, so they feel more secure. such as cardboard boxes flipped on their side, with doors of course. put newspapers or towels clipped on the side of the play pen, or you could actually put a towel on the top of the play pen. when you walk over to them, speak to them gently so they know you are coming. try not to pop out of nowhere or run really fast near them, that really scares them. good luck and keep us updated on their progress. they'll pull through:)

Thank you all! :)

I might put the platform thing back in their cage for now, that has a roof on it so they can both hide. Although Toffee seemed to prefer it in there and Teddy nicked the big comfy bed! :))

I put their bed in the pen but they were too busy trying to break free to notice it. :(

Will definately not be using the pen again until I know they are ready.

They were crying again this morning when I was taking their veg out and cleaning the floor, then when I stocked it up with grass, the cries soon turned into wheeks! :(|)

I always talk to them and crinkle their food bag when I am putting the muesli in so hopefully soon they will know what the score is!

They seem to be getting more scared as time goes on. My breeder said they are lovely to handle but obviously it is his hand they prefer! :0

aww dont worry. they sound like they are progressing. i know alot of piggies on here who cry bloody murder when they are in the process of being caught. once in the hands though, they are very calm.:)

Ahh they are hard work but adorable! :)

I put their roof thing in and I haven't seen them since although I have heard little noises and seen veg missing! :))

What does it mean if they are making little noises together in bed? (I know that sounds wrong! :p )

It sounds like a little pigeon noise.

Really hard to describe. Erm, it is like a purr I guess but was really high pitched when I scared them, but in the bed, it sounded like they were talking to each other but I couldn't see them to check out the body language.

My OH told me he thought they were fighting the other day but 99% of the time, they are huddled together so I hope they were just playing.

If they are from the same litter fighting generally isn't a problem but if they were you would hear! :)) They sound like they are happy by the purring you described. Have you bought any books yet ? I find some very very helpful. I could reccomend some if you like ?
