I bought Shadow my lovely long haired guinea the first week of january this year...When i first groomed him (after about five days of him been with me) his hair was pulling away and it had crusty scabs on and on investigating further his poor little body was covered in crusty scabs..
I took him straight to the vets, and after several visits treatment started for ringworm..
I took vet receipts back to the pet shop and talked to the manger .. i complained saying * should inform the breader cos they breading a male or female with ringworm and passing it on to the young.. she laughed and told me all baby guinea pigs are born with ring...

so my question is are baby guinea pigs born with ringworm?

its really been bugging me :{

No they are not! Every baby born at that particular breeder might well be though.

Another pet store told me that all guinea pigs have mites and its totally normal ....

Wrong! My baby developed a fungal infection soon after I'd adopted her but this was because her mummy had it and I was warned that my baby would probably get it as well. Poor piggies, I bet all the pigs from that particular breeder has ringworm :( It sounds like the Manager is trying to pass on the responsibility.

Thankyou so much... xx>>>

Glad ive got guineas back into my life again they such amazing animals, they just make me go all soppy x)

Thanks again and thanks to this Forum also which i had found it sooner for Shadow x

That is definately not true, go back and ask for a refund for your vets bills. The breeder has got a problem that needs sorting out and the other guineas that have been in contact with yours in the petshop could be infected too.

years ago with my first piggie(since I was a child anyway) he kept jumping (popcorning) I took him to a vet. she didnt even examine him just asked if he was on new hay. I said no it was some I had given to me, she said mites and gave the poor piggie an injection. He did squeal. I really dont think he had mites. I would know better now.....lovely big fuzzy Oz xx

That was my point to the manager about the other guineas too, it was a heated half hour conversation and they also did pay the vet bills in full, they werent going to at first, said they couldnt do anything, then said pay half, but because i was that determined in the end they did pay in full.. Shame the local family run pet shop couldnt compete with this big pet store :(
