Hiya!
Feeling a LOT calmer this morning, I have basically been doing nothing else but 'piggie watching', keeping an open mind and tryng to get a new view of my piggies relationship.
There was only a little bit of rumbling from Cobweb, this occured when I first entered the living room (where the cage is) and that's been it since. There was a lot of wheeking from Pigpig when he heard the fridge door opening and the romaine lettuce bag rustling, Cobweb doesn't wheek so much but he joined in at the end. Pigs commenced shovelling of veggies. Cobweb had a good sniff of Pigpig's bum through the fence. Lots of gurgling and cooing noises (what I call 'piggy chatting'). They touched noses through the fence. Cobweb lay down to sleep. Pigpig jumped up on top of his wooden cabin and wheeked at Cobweb to look and see how clever he was. Cobweb ignored him. Pigpig jumped down and played with his bell-ball. Pigpig then went into his cabin for a snooze. This is the time they are at their sleepiest, when they get more active this evening I will 'piggie watch' again.
And that's it! I am rather embarrassed at my big old freak out now. I won't remove the fence, the reason I put it up in the first place is so I didn't have to worry about them fighting when I was upstairs or out of the house. I think Pigpig is happy, if he wasn't he wouldn't eat so heartily and he is obviously very happy to chat to Cobweb.
I also haven't yet given up hope of getting them to bond, or at least improve their relationship. I have a few other methods in mind recommended by members of this forum but what I mostly need to do is give it time for the moment. There's no question of re-homing Pigpig, I love him and will gut out and turn the understairs cupboard into a piggie area if I have to. I brought him home and am responsible for him, so whatever it takes to make him happy, it's going to get done. I'll keep watch and if I'm still worried about Pigpig being lonely in about 6 months time, I'll look into a new pig and new caging arrangements which will suit both Cobweb and Pigpig. The last thing I want, as Karen said, is to post a new thread in a few weeks time with the title "Is it unfair on Munchy Joe?" (which would be the new piggie's name!).
I just really needed some clarity, thank you so much everyone who posted (some of you probably just wanted to give me a good shake!). I really appreciate it and I'm now confident I'm doing the best for my beloved piggies.
Thanks! Ang x x :smitten:
