When I first got my boys they had just been fed rabbit food :o. I kept them on the rest of the packet but added excell pellets to it. I didn't want to suddenly change their diets but knew they needed Vit C.

Anyway they have been eating guinneapig muesli with excel pellets added although they don't seem to eat many of the pellets but most of the muesli. I decided to change to Sience selective pellets instead and although they have eaten those a bit more they still seem to leave alot of it.

Is there any harm in just giving them a good muesli? I've always steered clear with my bunnies because of selective feeding, which my buns did!

What do you think? x

Just as bunnies, piggies will often pick out the bits they LOVE and leave the "yucky" bits, so for this reason in my personal opinion, I wouldn't use musli. As they may not get all the yummy and yucky bits they need.

Hope this helps.

I've fed Wagg GP Crunch for years & they do selectively feed. I now feed Wagg Optimum Pellets too, in a separate bowl, to give them a choice & have found, for mine, it works well as they eat both :)

I feed mine Gertie which they have always had plus a separate bowl of excel pellets. They do tend to eat mostly gertie but the bowl of pellets also goes down. They also have a wide range of hays/ forage to pick through as well.

I am glad others offer both as I have done this - mainly as I wanted to get them onto pellets to prevent selective feeding but have a uber huge bag of muesli for them to eat, its early days to see if they eat the pellets (burgess) as they have been on muesli food for the start of their lives.

Thats a good idea having two bowls and letting them choose; it's hard to keep track of what they're both eating.

As a rough guide how much should each piggy be eating. They're both being weighed and while Barry is maintaining his weight Alan is putting some on.

I want to be careful as I was over feeding my buns and ended up having to restrict their pellets a bit! :{

They have fresh veg about 5pm too x

Mine have a mix of pellets and meusli, though to be fair, they now selectively feed just the meusli...but all of it...strange children

Some guineas just won't eat nuggets, and IMO, better they are eating something than nothing at all dry food wise.
