When I was hugging them before, Ludo climbed up onto my shoulder and his face in my ear :)) but I could hear when he was sniffing, nothing loud or anything, you had to have his nose right up to you to hear it. I am just wondering if it is normal to hear *something* or whether he is unwell. :(

He is acting and eating normally and was wheeking for veg this morning, which is something I never hear!

First of all, put your finger over his heart and check it's fast. Secondly watch him, I can see Africa when he breaths <-- if that make senses, like i see his body move even if it's only slightly. Africa I can hear breathing but thats because he's sometimes a little weezy from the hay.

I say about the heart thing only because I remember thinking it was Leo's breathing that was the problem but turned out his heart was going way to slow. Hope all is well thought, I'm sure it's normal, it's funny how we suddenly make things a huge worry =]

His heart pounds when it's lap time, it was definately fast. I thought he let out a little sneeze too but I think that was because he buried his face in my hair and it may have irritated him.

What else should I be looking out for?

As far as I know (which is only from experience) a fast heart is good =], I think guinea pigs can sneeze just like humans, when they get dust or irritations so thats fine, it's actually quite cute don't you think =] I was told you shouldn't be able to count the heartbeats easily because they are so fast. I don't think I can hear Corly breath so I think it's just over worrying =] if it helps, keep an eye on him and wait for more advice on the breathing bit. Sorry I couldn't be more help, Leos breathing was slow and heavy you see and he was dying, a healthy guinea pig apprantly has a nice fast strong heartbeat (altho I can't always feel the strenght when I check mine, depends where you put the finger i guess) =D

Thanks for your help. :)

The sniffs were fast too, it wasn't his actual breathing that panicked me thankfully, just the fact I could hear his nose but I can hear myself sniff so I suppose it is to be expected! Maybe his hay has irritated him because I am at the bottom of the bag now so the bits might have bothered him.

The fact he was wheeking and begging at the front of the cage comforts me too because if he was ill he wouldn't be eating would he?

Oh, I can hear Africa's breathing pretty much, he has hayfever and I don't use much hay now (obv just for a bit of bedding and feed) and it went to a nice level. I think it's pretty normal... If he does change in the next 24 hours then take him the vet or find a rodentologist to ring but I doubt it will =] If he does start sounding a bit like he's got a cold, it could be the hay... I was told to use Olbas Oil, just a few sniffs. Africa smells like Olbas Oil after he's sniffed some lol but his breathing is much easier. It's a useful thing to have in, for guinea and for yourself =]

I'm quite sure guinea pigs wouldn't eat if they were sick but as many posts state, they hide illnesses until the last moment. He sounds good tho, healthy. =]

Has he got a wet nose? as in is it runny? - this can be a sign of a uri

I'm of no help sorry hun but hope it's nothing and Ludo is okay.

Thanks Modwyn. :)

Lovelygirl, no his nose seems fine. I have just had another cuddle, Hoggle doesn't do this noise but Ludo is still doing it, am really worried. :(

I tried listening to his chest but couldn't hear anything, it is just his little nose. :(

i would make an appointment with the vet to get them both checked out, just to be safe

I just had another cuddle and I am not sure if they were tiny squeaks now because he isn't as vocal as Hoggle. His nose is bone dry, he is acting normal. I am kind of thinking he is just making little noises because he didn't want me holding him...I will keep my eye on him anyway.
