I have noticed he has this sort of ruffle under his chin (looks a bit lion a lions mane lol) and I was wondering if maybe he is fat :{ he seems like a good size to me, never had any problems or anything...What do you think? Does this happen to most boars or is it excess fat

I do not think he is fat at all. He looks perfect to me. My Sophie is similar to him and yet eats the same as my other piggies.

He looks just perfect! He just has some extra chins... Don't we all! Long as it doesn't feel like a growth I wouldn't worry... He's gorgeous xx

theres a special word for that, can'r remember it now though, generally appears after a certain age in males. I don't think he looks overweight, just weigh him regularly so you can keep an eye on it because any SUDDEN gains or losses can be the first sign of illness so its a good habit to get into.
As long as he's active and eats a balanced diet then I shouldn't worry :)

Not sure what it's called "Dewlap" springs to mind? It is the piggy equivalent of a double chin, showing good living :))

Nothing to worry about all mine have developed one as they have got older & more cuddly rolleyes

It happens to most guinea pigs! Lots of my piggies have had big dewlaps Sow's usually have bigger ones than Boars. As long as his movement isn't impeded, ie: he can walk, run, groom himselfd and get his head down to his bum i wouldn't worry!

Thankyou everyone! I know female rabbits can get dewlaps but I never thought a male guinea pig would ?/

He can groom himself and do everything perfectly well :)

My Pickles (sow) has a dewlap :)) All it means is that there's more piggy to love!
