Is melamine safe for guinea pig cages?

I was wondering if melamine is safe to use to build a guinea pig cage by hand, just for the bottom and walls, I'm planning to make a bigger cage for my 2 guinea pigs.

Actually I think a famous Youtuber used melamine to build her custom cage. Perhaps the only risk is if the piggies chew on the raw edges and ingest wooden shards, but that seems unlikely.

You would have to make sure all edges were covered as I think melanins has a wood pulp centre which if gets wet it would swell etc
