I adopted my beautiful Gerald a month ago. He is now 7 months old. When we adopted him he weighed 580g and he is now 620g. He eats all his veggies and nuggets and doesn’t look skinny he is just dainty but fairly long. Should I be concerned about him being so tiny? Thank you!

Some are just smaller than others - One of my boars is just under 1kg at 3 years old whereas I had another who was 1550g!

Weight is not the gauge as to whether he is a good size - all weight does is tell you whether he is eating enough hay (hay being the most important part of the diet, not veggies or nuggets) to maintain himself each week.
The way you tell whether a piggy is a good size for themselves is to check heft. You put your hands around his ribs and if you can feel the ribs but with a thin layer of fat over them then they are a good size. Can’t feel the ribs at all means overweight; can feel all ribs and spaces between with no fat means underweight

I’ve added a guide below

Thank you! I think I’m just so used to having chunkers! I can feel
His ribs but they’re definitely not protruding. X

Gerald is beautiful, one of our first boars had that name and was a lovely, dopey sweetheart.

You've already got the right advice for feeling him and weight. I'll add that he's still a kiddo, and still growing. I recon my boars weren't really finished maturing until 1½years and only reached full size about 3 years.

I would say at 7 months I would expect him to still be gaining every week for a while. Is he losing any weight at the weekly weigh in?

He is out of the fast growth period so while he will still gain, it isn’t as rapid. As long as he isn’t losing the you don’t need to be concerned
