hello everyone ! this is a long one but i desperately need some more opinions z ive had my pigs 4 days now but i knew them before i got them as they were my mums friends so i’ve always known them since they were babies . they’re 2yrs old and have always had bickering problems and have had to be separated once or twice but have always come back and been alright . since i brought them home all they’ve done is bicker . the more dominant one(pooh) has been appearing to bully the laid-back one(piglet) but i’ve been keeping an eye on them . whenever i’m in their cage (which is a LOT) all pooh does is LOUDLY and consistently teeth-chatter at piglet then chase him and try to jump on him for nothing . it’s come to the point where pooh can’t even go near poor piglet without him flinching and running away . i know if they do it sometimes it’s normal and a sign of dominance but every few minutes they do it . i would hate going to go see them one day and see one of them has been injured . i don’t know what to do . should i give them time or separate them or maybe give them a bonding bath or something to make them hopefully bond back together again ?

Hi! Please sit it out. Piggies need to re-establish their hierarchy in any new territory. That is what you are currently witnessing. As long as they are not actually fighting, pleae leave off!

Please take the time to read this illustrated guide to social interactive and dominance behaviours to understand better what is going on: Bonding and Interaction: Illustrated social behaviours and bonding dynamics

thank you for the fast response! ok i’ll wait and hopefully they should settle down, just worried as they’ve always had problems together anything even in their old home . i’ve also read through the guide and it was very useful so thank you!

Please take a deep breath. It’s the change in surroundings that has set them off. Have a good read of the guides and only intervene if they are properly fighting. Establishing Dominance is hard to watch but it’s how piggies interact and sort themselves out.

okay . yeah it is worrying to see but it’s relaxing knowing it’s just from the change of surroundings . thank you
