I have had my guinea pigs for 4 years now and my boyfriend never had any problems at all in the beginning. In the last year or so, whenever he comes to my house he gets sore dry eyes. No sneezing etc. we just had the girls out for lap time and now his eyes are starting to feel sore. Has anyone else ever had this? I was thinking it could just be the hay but not sure :/

Allergies can develop at any time. Next time ask him to take some antihistamines before her comes to yours and see if it helps :)

Yeh he sometimes gets hay fever so has antihistamines at home and I told him to take one for next time so we can see whether it is the piggies or not.

It's strange what things can set you off!
I know! I have never had any allergies so I'm lucky. I suppose it's not too bad, he just gets itchy eyes. I'm just hoping it doesn't get worse as when we get a house of our own they will be coming with us :D so he will have to deal with it everyday

Just use the usual techniques of antihistamines, wash your hands after handling the piggies before touching your face etc :)

I am very allergic to guinea pigs, which is a bit unfortunate as I run a sanctuary for guinea pigs with extra needs. When new pigs arrive I really struggle for a few days, but then I seem to become desensitised to them. I do take antihistamines too though. Recently I had a large number of boarders arrive and had such a bad allergy attack in the night. I could barely breath and my throat and eyes were so itchy.

Oh no that's not good :( sorry to hear that. It must be pretty difficult for you. Maybe he will get desensitised to them if he spends more time with them :)

He might be, but its weird, sometimes I get a runny nose and sneezing loads, and then most of the time I am fine. Allergies are a mystery tbh.
