very nervous for my piggy and i'd like some advice if this is normal or if i could clean it somehow…
i'm trying to add a picture but if i could dscribe it looks like some brown lines on his waterline/lower eyelid and the other eye looks normal

if i could give more detail as i haven't figured out how to put a picture but basically one eye seems clean and the other seems to have some brown lining on the lower eyelid and it seems like it's in the eye as well. my guinea pig doesn't seem to be reacting to it, no tears, eye isn't partially closed. should i take him to the vet or should i try to clean the eye?

:wel: You will be able to post pictures once your membership has been fully processed (it isn't quite immediate). There will be a green "Attach files" button under the message box which is the easiest way to include a photo.

I'm not sure what you are referring to exactly. The ring around the eyes (like the skin elsewhere) matches the colour of the hair around it in guinea pigs. Or do you mean the area I've marked on this copy of your photo? 20250512_005444.webp

yes, i'm adding another picture to show what i mean

Hi

Most piggies have the same colour but occasionally the skin markings are different for each eye - and that carries into the conjunctiva - the tissue surrounding the eye ball inside the eye. It is just your piggy's 'normal'. If there are sudden changes to the conjunctiva (swelling, reddishness, purple tear glands being pushed out etc.) or any changes to the eye, then please see a vet.
