Hello, I rescued a guinea pig from a shelter and as soon as I saw her, she was big. I assumed that she had leftover fat from her pregnancy, but I am a little suspicious. She weighs 2.2lbs(997.903 grams)A4F31C97-2D17-43B2-8611-E418E68E9E6D.webpEDFE5AA6-EAAE-4D3E-B928-BD3E2709A1A1.webp

Hi the photos are difficult to see but she seems quite heavy but it could also be her breed. Try watching her eating habits and see what she prefers to eat I.e hogging the pellets too much .

Hi!

That is a very normal average weight for an adult guinea pig.

If you want to check whether your guinea pig is overweight or not for its individual size and age, please read our weight management guide link below. It tells you how exactly to check around the ribs (and not by their bum shape) and what to look for since guinea pigs have such an enormous weight range at all ages - and they can still all be perfectly healthy and well in themselves, the same as small and large humans can be totally fine for their size and not be underweight or overweight, whether they are less than 5ft or not far off 7ft.
Please read this link here: Weight - Monitoring and Management

The guide also has has got tips on how to get your piggy back on track if you find that she is overweight. have you also considered the possibility that she may be pregnant?

How old is she? 997g is not fat. I used to have a piggy, Bunny, reached a weight of 1.5kg. My current piggy Cookie used to weigh 1.3kg at almost 2yrs. old before she lost a lot of it in March because of abscess problems (she currently weighs around 900g). My other 2 piggies, Sierra (1y.o.) and Rocky (around 6mos.), weigh 1.3 kg and 1.13kg respectively.

My boar weighs 1.3kg and sow weighs 1kg

My sow is alot smaller framed and not as long as my boar.
