hi, i have 2 piggies, just over 1 year old. i weighed them the other week and they weigh 1100g for one and the other is a bit less. they are both sows, is this right?
it is very rare to find an overweight guinea pig. sunshine and twinkle's piggies are near or over a year and her sows are 1300grams.
i have learnt the more weight a piggy has the better for if/when they get ill they can lose weight so if your piggy has weight on it it has a better chance of getting better.
my zoe who was 3 at the time was 1200grams and she got sick and she went down to 850grams now she is nearly 4 and she is up to 972grams.
so don't worry your piggies are fine!ppp
I asked Vedra the last time she phoned me for my tutorial session at what weight a adult guinea pig is considered overweight. She replied and stated that there was no such thing as an overweight guinea as their metabolism works so fast. They only thing you can have is a large built guinea.
That was good news for all of my 16 guineas as they thought for a split second that they were going to go on a diet!
