Is she aggressive or possessive? Or something else.

Hello. I am sorry if this has already been a question 19292 times but I have looked and can't seem to find this specific situation. If someone has seen a post like this one could you please share the link?! Thanks. Anyway here's my dilemma.

We have a Guinea pig, Luna, that's about a year old and her cage mate got ill and passed away. She is fine but we got a new one from the same breeder because she seemed depressed and this one, Vega, is about a month old. When we first introduced them Luna started cleaning Vega and they both seemed happy. We put Vega in the new cage we built for them and bought a new house she could use for herself. We have separate feeding areas and such as well. The problem is Luna keeps not letting Vega eat or go into either house. She will lick her one second and the next will chase her off and pin her down like she's biting her and the baby goes crazy squealing and even shakes at times. We feed veggies separate because the big one is so greedy and mean now that we just didn't want to risk it. But the attacking thing is worrisome. She won't let her eat much. I am trying to figure out if this huge chubby butt is trying to prove dominance over this tiny little hamster sized baby or if she is being aggressive... Or something else. We put them in separate cages for a bit to give them a break. Then I divided the cage and put them on either side to let them smell each other for a bit. However the baby just goes insane when she sees her just squealing away like she wants in there so bad. She even tried to climb through the divider so I made the holes smaller. I an lost and have no clue what to do so I was hoping someone here might be able to help.

I am first time Guinea pig (potato as we like to call then) owner and just could use a little guidance. Ferrets are much different! One of the craziest differences so far is that Guinea pigs poop where they eat and ferrets don't like to. Also ferrets are so social and friendly and as much as with socialize our piggies they still don't love people and being held.

Thanks in advance for any advice/help with this situation.

Also any other random advice you may have is very welcome. I want to do good by them.

Hello :) Welcome to the forum!

How long have you had Vega now? Sounds like dominance to me to be honest. When we first got Chickpea as a 3 month old our oldest Widget harassed her for a week.

How long has this been going on?

Thank you!
We put them into the same cage just yesterday. They came from the same home and Vega is so young that we were told to not wait. She hasn't drawn any blood but I feel so bad for the little babe. Did the bullying stop for your little buddies!

So that happened in one day? Not over a number of days?

So she was fine when first introduced yesterday morning. Then maybe 15 minutes into being in the same cage it started. So all day yesterday, had to break them up once overnight, and today but today we separated them for a bit to get a break then did the divider in the same cage. It seems like it's been a week but nope just one day. I'm just worried.

Yes, but doesn't sound as bad as what is happening your end. Widget would chase Chickpea around and mount her lots. It took around a week to fully calm down, luckily we have a huge cage so she did get some peace

What is the pinning down and biting? This is concerning me, Luna is exerting her dominance quite aggressively to Vega who is sounding like she is being submissive to her

I know it is really stressful and awful to watch. How big is the cage?

Is Luna Mounting her, the biting would concern me.

So one pic is the first setup. Another is new setup and the third is the divider attempt ( before I put a house on either side and food and water at both ends).

Your cage is a great size for two. When you put them in together had it all been cleaned so there was no scent of any pig in there?

You should bond in a neutral big run.
