I just weighed my guineas and Gypsy topped the scales at a whopping 1300g!

Is that very large or just normal? Don't know her age - she is a rescue and I had no details about her age.

One of them Lola who isn't even a year old weighs 1180g which I thought was pretty good for a girl not even a year old (born in May)

My boar weights are:

1.2, 1.3, 1.35, 1.4kg.

1.3 is a fine weight.

If you're concerned you might want to limit her pellets to the recommended amount (1/8th a cup 2x a day) to see if she naturally reduces her weight if you currently free feed pellets, I personally wouldn't be worried if her weight is stable and not creeping constantly - but you can do what I recommended if you're worried that you're overfeeding and concentrate on having hay as a major part of the diet... but otherwise it's nothing to worry about and gives you some extra weight to work with should she become unwell.

i have a boar who tops the scales at 2kg. we are currently trying to get his weight down to at least 1.5kg for his healths sake. his previous owner fed him treats daily and he was confined to a small space so didnt move much. now we have given him and his cagemate(1.5kg) a large area, and we 'hide' their food so they have to search for it.

Her weight sounds fine, yep! Anything between 900g and 1800g can be normal. :)

My heaviest is 1430-something (I forget exactly as a few are very similar weights!), and that's Jasmine.

She has put on weight since we got her - she was 1180g when we got her but as she was part of a rescue operation I expected her to put on weight.

I don't free feed any of them - I do the small handful per pig per day and none of them finish them so I know they aren't overeating.

Glad she's not overweight. She doesn't look overweight.

WOW! 2kg - now that is quite a handful. Hows the weight loss going?

It must be down to Dwr Cyrmu as we are also in Cardiff and Lucy weighs 1300g, Fluffy weighs 1100g. Lucy loves her food and should anyone open the cupboard where her pellets are she will sit in her bowl begging even if its full.

Must be! Great have another Cardiff person on the board.

Off to see if you did an introduction so I can say I proper hello!

Nerys weighs 1300g and Telyn is 997g at just under 6 months old...

So they are perfectly normal! Just big girls!

If she's a bit lethargic/not active...watch our for heart or kidney pig signs at 1.3kg...

My sows are 1.4 (she is a deff heart pig) ranging down to 1.02 - (latter has urine probs but was also litte runt)

Is the water bottle emptyng more quickly than normal?

xx

I would say she is fine, each piggy has different lineage/build and age is a factor too,
If she looks healthy dont worry;),my heaviest boy was Boris and helthy was around 1800g so they can get quite big or in Basils case he is healthy and only weighs 970g.
Some pigs will be overweight at certain weights and others will be in top health at that same weight.
My Zanzi has issues with keeping weight off,the biggest things i notice that tell me he is overweight is
He is incredibly lazy and wont run around much even in a run.His breathing also sounds like a wheeze/kind of short of breath sound, typical of what you would here in an overweight human,He also has fatty deposits on the sides of his tummy which look untoned so thats another one to look for. xx

In 21 years of keeping pigs I have yet to notice a link between weight and heart/bladder problems.
Can you supply further evidence?

All of my guineas act normally. Active, normal eating / drinking.

I think you're all right she's just a big girl. I think some of the younger ones will eventually overtake her in weight anyway if they don't slow down.

I think having a 3 month old pipsqueak in the house has made the rest of them look like giants :))
