Hi, Pippin is a 6 & a half year old female piggie. Who has been spoilt & lives indoors. Not needed any advice in all them years till now. 3 months ago she was found to be extremely wet in the morning. Off to the vets where she was found to have sludge so had the irrigation and recovered well. A week or 2 later She was walking back to her run when she fell over & we think she had a seizure. The weekend just gone she hardly urinated but was going through the motions so early Monday morning back to the vets where they did irrigation again but found pus was coming from her kidneys to her bladder. The vet gave us the option of PTS & said she was very ill but with antibiotics & pain killers we felt like she needed a chance. As a family we've agreed that as soon as she shows signs I will take her to be PTS. She's eating & drinking, she loves her veggies. But she bites to come out her run and wants cuddles all the time. Which she gets as I am disabled so tend to be sitting a lot. We have afternoon naps together.& She has caused lots of tears already.

Have a hug, I am so sorry. Just reading your post it is plain to see how much she means to you.

Piggies do hide illness well, but then when they are unwell you know it. As long as she is weeing, pooing, active eating piggy is normally a pain free one so it sounds like the meds are working.

As long as she is weeing, pooing and eating and has a good quality of life then let her be your guide. But as soon as she starts to deteriorate then it may be time to help her on her way. PTS is never easy, God knows we have had to have many of our babies PTS over the years and every time it hurts and you get the unreasonable guilt that comes with grief... did i do it too soon? could i have done more? etc.... All these unfair questions our pain forces on us at the moment. PTS is the last act of love we can make for our pets and we are putting their welfare above all and above our own pain also.

Let Pippin be your guide. Huge hugs and sending love to Pippin

Thank you, seeing her have seizures wasn't nice.Vet said her pain might of triggered both. But this afternoons nap, I thought she was having a seizure & going. But after her meds she's like a baby again. But very wet, having to wash her butt every day,and she's constantly wet....we're happy she's peeing but can't get her dry.

Awwwwww sounds like you are such a caring piggymum. As they hide their illness you may have to trust your gut and make that decision as to when her quality of life isn't there any more. As @sport_billy says "PTS is the last act of love we can make for our pets and we are putting their welfare above all and above our own pain also." :hug:It's the hardest thing so have a hug x

What a difficult situation to find yourself in. You know your piggie best so will know when the time has come to help her over the Rainbow Bridge.

Thank you for your time & comments.

When we got her we wasn't told about their bonding,so 'picked' 2 piggies. Only to find that the other one was so spiteful to her we took her back & kept Pips. Then we got everyones comments about how cruel it was to keep only one. So with a heavy heart & tearswe took her to a rehoming center. Had a chat with Lesley in Southend....she had so many piggies I didn't know so many people could just dump them. But while we were there Pips just wasn't interested in their weaks & 'follow the leaders' so we took her home & she is our baby. I swear she thinks she's human. She loves Sunday morning cuddles on the bed. She walks around but today she isn't lifting her butt to wee or poop & that's possibly why she feels so wet in the mornings. They are such a lovely pet I recommend them. But I wont be getting anymore as the heart break is too much.
